Cant transfer a playlist to my sony mp3 player

Sony mp3 model nwz-s606f tried everything including exchanging the walkman. when i create a playlist and then sync it transfers the music to the library only. when i select playlist on the mp3 play i get the message "no playlist available. please connect to compliant software or device and transfer playlists".i have followed the instruction bulletins from the readme file on the sony media manager and also on the windows media player. had the same problem with both mp3 players. is there a problem with this option on the mp3 player?? It has just been released for sale is my understanding. very frustrated.

thanks

have exactly same problem with Sony NWZ-A818 mp3 player

  • alice17 Apr 27, 2008

Same exact problem.. I can't use WMP in general, so I've been trying to move playlists to my NWZ-S616 using a program called winamp, but every time I move playlists I create on winamp to the player, it doesn't move the actual playlists- it just puts whatever songs were in it in my library.. pretty annoying. i can't figure out which folder i'm supposed to be transferring these playlists to or what

Me too, set up a MYSony account, and somebody has the solution there. It's all European based, and when I click on solution nothing happens. Try to register my product and Canada and US are not available in their drop down selections.

Windows Media Player (WMP) 11 in XP does not create Playlist on my MP3 MTP device. I have a Sony Walkman NWZ-S544 but I think my problem and its solution could also apply to other MP3 players that don't receive Playlists from WMP. And perhaps to Vista and Windows 7?
When I connected my WALKMAN to my PC and used WMP to Sync (transfer) Playlists to it, the songs were correctly Synched but no Playlists were created on my WALKMAN. My problem was that Windows had installed the wrong driver for my WALKMAN. Here is how I diagnosed and fixed the problem.
DIAGNOSIS: When I used WMP to Sync, the picture in WMP's right hand window was a generic MP3 device. It should have looked like my WALKMAN NWZ-S544. When I looked at the device drivers, I couldn't find a driver for my WALKMAN NWZ-S544 under Portable Devices, but instead found a non-MTP Walkman listed as a USB Mass Storage Device. (See Fix explanation for how to look at device drivers.)
Fix: To fix the problem I first uninstalled the incorrect driver and then installed the correct driver. Here's how…

  1. I disconnected all MP3 players and USB devices (Key/thumb/External Hard drives, etc) from my PC.
  2. I opened the Device Manager. Right-click My Computer-Click Properties.-Click Hardware Tab-Click Device Manager. No Portable Devices were showing. Click the + to the left of the Universal Serial Bus Controllers heading and there was one USB Mass Storage Device but it was for an irrelevant memory card reader on my PC that I can't disconnect.
  3. I connected my Walkman. Looking at the Device Manager, I see that one new USB Mass Storage Device is now showing, I right click-Properties and it describes it as a Compatible USB storage device (Walkman). This is my problem. Windows is using an older Walkman driver. My Walkman driver should be for a MTP device.
  4. I again right click the Walkman USB storage device and click Uninstall. I click OK to Confirm Device Removal. The Device Manage no longer shows my Walkman which has now turned itself off.
  5. I disconnect my Walkman and then reconnect it. Windows gives me the message that I have installed new hardware. The Found New Hardware Wizard starts. I click "No, not this time" and then Next. I click "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and then Next. I click "Don't search. I will chose the driver to install." and then Next. I click "Show compatible hardware" and I select "MTP Device" under Model and then Next. Windows then finds the appropriate driver for my Walkman and I'm done.
VERIFICATION: To verify that it is properly installed, look in the Device Manager under Portable Devices (while your Walkman is connected). Click + and you should see:"Walkman NWZ-S544". Or simply look under Name in My Computer and you should see an entry for Walkman NWZ-S544, and an icon that looks like your Walkman. Everything should now work properly.

FredCBarnes thanks for the informative and concise repair instructions. I purchased my NWZ-S544 in Fall 2009, all systems worked perfectly until my download of the WMP 11 for XP this Spring. From that point on all updates to already established playlist would no work and even entire playlist would no show on the Walkman. Figured the fix had to do with drivers but your directions made it easy to diagnos/repairs. Thanks again.

  • pju5 Dec 30, 2010

Many thanks Fred - very helpful! One note to other readers however, you might find that each time you connect your player it installs the old driver automatically. To get around this just choose 'Upgrade Driver' from the Properties/Driver Tab and then follow Fred's instructions from "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
    Have fun - Paul.

Mine is Windows 10, same problem. I can follow Fred Barnes up to where you connect the MP3, but mine does show under "Portable Devices" I can select properties, driver details, update drivers, all of which I did. Nothing works.

Download WalkmanMTP from the above link and unzip. If all your files are already on your mp3 player, just create a new playlist, select the songs you want, and sync. If you already have it all on your PC, it will upload the files as well.

If the above link is cut off, this is the entire on one line:

I had the same problem with my Sony. Here is how I fixed it:

In Media Player, right click on the Playlist you want to add to your MP3 player, select "Add to Sync list". Then sync the files and it should work. I tried dragging and dropping into in the Sync pane and it would not work.

Use Mediamonkey to transfer playlists. Go into the synchroize options/configure, select your device and then select all the playlists you want to transfer. They will all transfer in one sync and you will not lose any songs that are repeated on other playlists.

Well if you have windows media (press the start button, then go to all programs then find windows media player) first you go to which ever file has your music then you drag the music from that file or folder and place it on now playings list. once you have gotten all the songs you want on your playlist you go to now playing button then go to save playlist as then create a title of your choice next you go to the top of the screen and press the sync button . next you hook up your mp3 to computer then you go to items to syncronize and you should find your playlist in there it might automaticly start syncing with your mp3 if not you go to the right side of the screen right across from your playlist file you should see a b;ank space, click the arrow (down) yiu should see your mp3 some where in there then you go right above the name of your playlist and you press start sync once sync is finish safely emove your mp3 and your playlist should be on there

The first thing you must do is format the player and add a playlist like mazeofmyster said. Afterwards, you can freely add new playlists or individual songs.

The easiest way to create a playlist is to organize the music files on your computer. Attach your device and go to
Start Menu; Devices and Printers; Walkman; Browse Files; Click on the Storage Device; Music Folder.
Once you are in the music folder reorganize mp3 files into folders then right click on the folder you want to make into a playlist. Go down the pop up menu and click on Create Playlist. A playlist will be created which will show up in the music folder of your device, not the playlist folder.
Note; make sure that there are no subfolders in the folder you want to create a playlist of. Transfer all the mp3s out of subfolders and into one main folder.

I had the same problem. One day my Mp3 started acting weird and said it was not recognizing the files and that i needed to re download them. Try plugging it up to your computer while its charging and hit the power off. Then reset your mp3 with the button at the bottom and it should recognize it.

Here is the info from Sony:
Is it possible to drag and drop music from the Apple® iTunes® software to the portable player using the Content Transfer Application? Solution
sp.gif sp.gif Yes, if you have iTunes software installed, you can transfer music and playlists from iTunes software to the Walkman® player by dragging and then dropping the files to the Content Transfer application.
NOTES:
  • The Content Transfer application supports data transfer from iTunes software 7.6 or 7.7 to the Walkman player.
  • The Content Transfer application supports data transfer from iTunes software 8.0. However, for playlist transfer from iTunes software 8.0 to the Walkman player, make sure you are using the latest version of the Content Transfer application. The latest version can be downloaded from the Sony Support Web Site at http://esupport.sony.com
  • Digital Rights Management (DRM) copyright-protected files are not supported. iTunes music files may be able to be upgraded to iTunes Plus music files, which do not contain DRM.
  • Do not disconnect the USB connection during data transfer.
  • If there is insufficient free space on the portable player, the data cannot be transferred.
  • The Content Transfer application is included with most newer Walkman Video players. It also is available for additional models in the NWZ-A, NWZ-E, and NWZ-S series. Some models may require an update to be compatible. Additional model-specific information can be found in the Drivers & Software section of the Sony Support Web Site at http://esupport.sony.com.
