Secure your linksys router wireless or access point administration interface linksys router wireless have an administrator password that's needed to log into the device and modify any configuration settings. Most devices use a weak default password like "password" or the manufacturer's name, and some don't have a default password at all. As soon as you set up a new WLAN router or access point, your first step should be to change the default password to something else. You may not use this password very often, so be sure to write it down in a safe place so you can refer to it if needed. Without it, the only way to access the linksys router wireless or access point may be to reset it to factory default settings which will wipe away any configuration changes you've made.

Enable WPA encryption instead of WEP
802.11's WEP (Wired Equivalency Privacy) encryption has well-known
weaknesses that make it relatively easy for a determined user with the
right equipment to crack the encryption and access the wireless network.
A better way to protect your WLAN is with WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access).
WPA provides much better protection and is also easier to use, since
your password characters aren't limited to 0-9 and A-F as they are with
WEP. WPA support is built into Windows XP (with the latest Service Pack)
and virtually all modern wireless hardware and operating systems. A
more recent version, WPA2, is found in newer hardware and provides even
stronger encryption, but you'll probably need to download an XP patch in
    order to use it.

You need to setup Encryption.

SETUP WPA2 ENCRYPTION ON YOUR ROUTER:

  1. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.
  2. Open a web browser on the computer.
  3. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1
  4. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.
  5. Click on Security in the left-hand column under the Wireless heading.
  6. Use the drop-down menu and select "WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK)".
  7. Select either WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, or WPA-PSK+WPA-PSK2 as your Authentication; doing this will set the Encryption Technique automatically.
  8. Enter a word or group of characters in the password (PSK) box. The Pre-Shared Key must be 8 to 63 characters in length. Note: The PSK (Pre-Shared Key) is case-sensitive ("A" is different than "a").
  9. Unchecking the Obscure PSK box will allow you to see the security key that has been typed.
  10. Click the "Apply Changes" button to save the settings.

SETUP WPA2 ON YOUR LAPTOP OR PC:

Connecting to a WPA2-secured network:

  1. Select the network you want to access.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. In the dialog box that appears, type the WPA-Personal pass phrase in the Network Key and Confirm network key text boxes, then select the Connect option. The connection should be made automatically.

If you are using the Windows wireless client on a computer that has Windows XP Service Pack 2 and cannot connect to a wireless network that uses for Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA 2) security then you will need to update your Windows wireless client.
To update your wireless client please follow the instructions found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917021

My Router works only if I do not put security password on it.

The router works only if the network is unsecured.
When you secure the wireless network , make sure that you will change the wireless network name also. Because if you change the wireless security and if you keep the same network name then your computer will try to connect to the same network name with the old unsecured settings saved on the computer.
Try to change the SSID ( network name ) and security to WPA, check if that works.
If that doesn't work then I believe you will need to upgrade the FIRMWARE of the router.

You need to reconfigure the router. The power outage probably resetted the router to it's default settings. In the default state the router doesn't have any wireless security; hence the "unsecured network" warning from your PC.

Connect your PC or a laptop with a cable to the router, surf to (http://192.168.1.1 or https://192.168.1.1 - ignoring any security warning); which is the configuration interface of the router and follow instructions in the manual.

When you have a Linksys configuration CD, you can simply run the "Easy configuration" setup after connecting your PC with a cable to the router.

Plainly put you just have to configure the router just like when you first used it.
