Camera works with standard SD memory card, but not SDHC

Ok, i put some fresh batteries in my Nikon CoolPix L1 and replaced the memory card with a SanDisk 4 GB SDHC card. the camera powers on normally, but the lens goes straight to half zoom, and none of the buttons seem to do anything. when i press the power button again to turn it off, the screen goes blank, but the camera stays on. i tried putting the old 2 GB standard SD card back in, and the camera works normally. i guess it's a compatibility issue with the SDHC card. is there a fix for this, or do i have to hunt down some standard SD cards?

There are hardware incompatibilities between SD and SDHC cards. They're upward compatible in that SDHC devices will accept SD cards but not the other way around. You will have to hunt down SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Nikon B500 camera. I put a new memory card in my Nikon B500 and the camera says 'card not present'.

Is it this type of card?

The B500 is compatible with SDHC and SDXC cards. That means you can use cards from 4GB all the way to the largest cards currently available. (at that time 128GB)

And is it less than 128GB?

Your Nikon Coolpix B500 Digital Camera is compatible with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

NIKON COOLPIX L1,6.2 MG PIXEL,HAS A BLINKING RED HAND ,AFTER INSERTING A 4GB SDHC CARD,NEVER GOES AWAY,AND WORKS W/OUT MEMORY CARD.WHAT IS GOING ON,BAD CAMERA?...AND CANNOT OPEN MENU DURING RED HAND

I cannot find a Coolpix L1 it may be real old
If the camera is OLD 4GB will not work in it. many small cameras do have some memory inside.
You have to get an older SD that is much less memory.

I have a problem with my memory card which supplied with nikon coolpix l4 and its is 512MB.now 512mb is not available so could i replace it with 2GB memory card.also let me know that 2GB card will support...

The L4 and its software will work with any size SD cards. Make sure you get SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards go up to 2GB, while SDHC cards start at 4GB and go up.

Why won't my Nikon coolpix L1 camera work with my sandisk SDHC card?

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Another possibility- SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Finally, it may be that the card is not formatted. Most come pre-formatted, but there is a format function in the camera that you can try. Formatting deletes anything already on the card.

What kind of memory card will i use in this camera. Are all memory cards have a standard size.

You may use any SD or SDHC card. All SD and SDHC cards are the same size physically. Electronically, SD cards range up to 2GB while SDHC cards range from 4GB to 32GB. Any of them will work in the L110.

Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

CoolPix 5000 "OUT OF MEMORY" message that we can't figure out

At 4GB size, your memory card is likely a SDHC card, and not a standard SD card. Although they look the same, there is a difference in formatting. Unfortunately your model camera was designed before the SDHC format came out, and it will not work with your camera. But fortunately standard SD cards are very inexpensive these days, and you should be able to purchase a good 2GB standard card for around $6 with shipping:

SDHC memory card

The L1 is an old camera, before the SDHC standard. There is no forward compatibility (SD devices can't use SDHC cards), only backward (SDHC devices can use SD cards).

The latest version of the firmware is available at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13783

That still won't let you use SDHC cards.
