Cannot play tape.

Yes I have a tape in my camcorder. I can view everything correctly, and I can record anything. But when I try to view what I have recorded, the screen stays blue, and the time bar at the bottom left becomes --:--:--. This only just happened 2 weeks ago, before that, it was working fine.

Sometimes that happens to me too. What I do is just push play, then fast forward, and normally if you watch it, the picture starts to come back. Just keep fast forwarding until you can see all of the picture, and you should be fine.

Fast tape playback for samsung vp-l770 can't watch at normal speed on camcorder?

Tapes recorded on one camcorder very rarely play back satisfactorily on another machine - you will have to use your old camcorder to view them, or else get them transferred to DVD

I have a Samsung camcorder and when I play mini dv tape recordings from Canon camera I recorded on , the sound is distorted

If the tape plays correctly in the Canon camcorder, here are a couple of possible reasons for the issues you are having:

1. the Samsung camcorder has a cleaning issue - try running a dry head cleaning tape for about 5 to 10 seconds and see if that helps.

2. The alignment is off between the two different camcorders. Nothing you personally can do about that, but a repair center would be able to correctly align the tape path on both camcorders.

Do the tapes that you record on the Samsung have issues when you play them back on the Samsung? If so, you have a problem with that camcorder (may be cleaning, but could be a mechanism problem) Hope this has helped you. www.austintelstarservices.com

Screen black. Everything else works perfectly.

To my understanding that you do not see live view in camera mode to record and camcorder playback old recorded tapes correctly and you get picture in LCD.
If it is true then please check lens cover that need to be slide down to get live view in camera mode. If problem still exist then 2 possibilities, either aperture in lens mechanism is bad or ccd imager is defective.
In that problem, camcorder needs qualified tech to fix it.
Let me know any further query.

When recording it shows that it is recording but we can't see anything. If we play back what we think we might have recorded we can only hear the sound but not see anything.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

IMPORTANT: If additional model-specific instructions are needed to perform any of the steps below, refer to the operating instructions of the camcorder. The instruction manual is available in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony eSupport Web site.
  1. Ensure a fully-charged battery is inserted or connect the AC power adapter.
  2. Turn the camera on to the VTR or PLAYBACK mode.
  3. Insert a cassette tape with recorded video into the camcorder.
  4. Ensure the cassette tape is rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  5. Begin playing the cassette tape.
  6. If your camcorder has an LCD screen, try adjusting the brightness or contrast.
  7. If there is still no picture on the LCD or viewfinder, reset the camcorder to factory specifications

My camcorder can play old tapes but won't record

Hi,
Your camcorder Sony DCR-HC20E has bad ccd imager problem and that part will be replaced to have live view to record on tape.
I can provide you ccd imager part number info if you want to repair it by yourself.
CCD Imager replacement in this camcorder requires expertise and fair skills of soldering parts in PCB.

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps

No playback on JVC GR-D72

It souunds like the problem is in the Vid-PC connection. I suggest you start by downloading the latest version of whatever software you have used to capture and view.

Also - uninstall any hardware in the PC that is used to capture (just remove from system device list) and then restart the PC and let it detect and re-install.

If you don't know how to do these steps, then you'll need geek help.

Hi8 playback problem

your guides have come loose , probably - the digital sound will be next to go because the bottom edge of your tapes are being folded - open the cassette tape lid by pressing the small pin near one hinge and gently lifting the door - if there are any creases ? get the guides aligned ! to protect your library ; ( if there are no creases , try a sony d8 cleaning tape - once ! before getting a repair quote ) ;

Not reading Hi8 tapes

Fidus, I am not sure where you are located but the camcorder you're trying to use now is a PAL version of Sony's 8mm camcorder. If the tapes you recorded earlier were recorded in D8 (digital 8) or 8mm/Hi8 format NTSC, they will not play correctly in this unit. The NTSC and PAL formats are different and not compatible. Hope this helps you. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
