Does it happen to all print jobs? Try to use different drivers. PS drivers tend to be slower than PCL drivers and graphics tend to print slower than text.

Printer takes forever to print

How is the printer connected to your computer(s)?
If it is USB or network. Try a different cables.

Does your computer run slow also? Low disk space can cause print jobs to print slowly.

Network issues can cause slow printing as well. If your printer is on network and there is a mismatch of 10/100 Mbps speed or Half/Full duplex, the printing can be slow.

If your OS is Windows, remove the printer from Printers and Faxes. Uninstall the driver package if installed separately. Download the latest drivers and install them and reinstall the printer.

The message that appears is 900 firmware, err

If the 900 error appears only when you send a print job to the printer, the likely source of the problem is the computer. Turn off the printer. Leave it powered off for 30 seconds or more to clear its memory. Do not power the printer off and on too quickly. Doing so can cause a power issue and create this type of issue.

While the printer is off, clear any pending print jobs from the computer or the network queue. This will prevent any corrupted print jobs from being re-sent to the printer when it is powered back on.

If the error appears every time you power on the printer, regardless of whether you send a print job or not, the likely source of the problem is a part on the printer. There is probably an issue with either the printer or an option installed on the printer. Power off the printer again and remove any installed options from the printer. This would include an optional paper tray, any extra memory, and any optional network cards.

900 service RIP software error - how do you fix it?

Please try to do the following steps. Remove parallel, USB, and/or network connections andrecycle the printer's power so that it is operating as a standalone machine. If it powers up to the Ready state, print the MenuSettings page(s) from the Utilities Menu. If the printer works without error while disconnectedeither from the network or a locally attached computer, there is a strong possibilitythat a corrupted file or network/parallel/USB connection is causing theerror. Look for patterns such as aparticular file or a particular workstation generating the error when data issent to the printer. Clear the print queue and connect all cables back andturn the printer back on. Resubmit the print job(s) and try printing again b> If the error will not clear, please take note of thesecondary code and contact Lexmark Technical Support.

Prior to past few days printer worked fine. Now it prints a few postcards then gives a print buffer message on printer screen and from there on it prints gobbledy gook. Now it won't even print a test...

Sounds like you cover all the bases. I just wonder if you reset the unit via the service mode?
resetting the printer should have cleared the memory.

Hold down select and return while powering on machine, hold until self test comes up on display then press go, this will get you into service mode.

Run the memory diagnostics.

Printing - print job arives @ printer no output

Sounds like a driver problem. Some printers require eoj (end of job) character & will wait forever.
Do a test print (search internet on how to print status page- usually button press combo). If you get a printout, you know the print engine is good.
If the printer is able to parse text, then try sending an ascii test file & see if anything prints. This will tell you whether it's a comm issue or rendering issue.

X5150 and Vista print issue

I am posting this in hopes of helping others that are having issues with the Vista print spooler. In my case, I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Vista connected to a wireless hub. I also have a Minolta Konica 2300DL printer that is connected to the network via the wireless hub as well. Ever since obtaining this laptop, I have not been able to print to the printer other than stopping and starting the print spooler to obtain a single print 'job'. After about six months I found a post that contains the fix - I cannot take credit for it! Follow these instructions to get your printer to work:

1.) Go into control panel - I would suggest classic view as it is a little easier to navigate.

2.) Then go into User Accounts.

3.) From User Accounts go into Turn User Account Control On or Off

4.) UNCHECK Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.

5.) At this point you will probably require a reboot.

Once this exercise is complete, you should be able to print. One more item off of my Honey DOO list!!!!!

Lexmark 1650 Optra S printer will not cancel print jobs, HELP!

http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/knowledgebase.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:169:0:0

This is the primary page for troubleshooting this printer.

In regard to general issues regarding cancellation of print jobs, this is most often due to driver issues, or handling within the operating system. Please refer to http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/knowledgebase.cgi
regarding general instructions to stop/restart print spool & print jobs.

If you are using the printer on a network, often the settings for the printer on the network will cause this issue, and the cancellation abailability to owners or users needs to be adjusted within the network / server system. If it is a standalone setup, the solution depends on the OS; however, generally you should be able to open the printer control (e.g., Control Panel > Printers > Lexmark 1650...) and delete the job listed in the queue.

You may also initiate an online chat with a Lexmark support tech at http://support.lexmark.com/static/229-1-0-71.html.

If you require additional assistance, please post back with further information; otherwise, thanks for rating FixYa!

Lexmark T642 Slow Slow Printing

I've had this problem with the Lexmarks's T640 printers connected via USB to Mac OS 10.5.5 machines.

Problem: The Mac OS' default resolution of 1200 DPI for this printer causes the printer to have to rasterize the print job again AFTER it arrives at the printer. The printer does a painfully slow job of this.

Solution: Change the default resolution of your print jobs to "600dpi".

Instructions:

1.)Call up the printer settings menu by starting a print job and clicking the up-arrow next to "Printer" box.

2.)Click on the drop-down list with the name of your application and choose "Printer Features".
Change your resolution to "600dpi". Oddly, I find that "1200dpi Image Quality" is almost as fast.

3.)It might be a good idea to "Save as" this new configuration in the "Presets" menu at the top of your list.

You should notice a tenfold increase in the time it takes the printer to actually produce print jobs now.

Additionally, in the "Color Matching" settings (you can get there by changing from the "Printer Features" settings), be sure that you are using "ColorSync" so your printer isn't having to do any additional processing in that area.

900 service error with lexmark printer

OK, a couple of things... Some earlier Lexmark units had code on both a RIP board (raster image
processor) and an engine board. In this case, the code would have to be reloaded into both
boards. Fortunately, this can be done even if the printer will not boot to a ready state. However, if
this has already been done sucessfuly, the problem may well not be the printer but rather something
in the data stream. To confirm this, remove any and all data cables and reboot the printer. If it comes ready and you can print all the internal pages including the network config pages, then it is likely the
problem is the data stream. One must be careful when the printer is controlled by a print server
because the end user may not have control over the print que. If a corrupt or printer incomprehensible
job is stuck in the que, the printer will go to a 900 condition as soon as the network interface
initializes. This will continue until the print que is cleared.

Hope this helps...

Sean.
