Sony Playstation 3 + HDMI + Samsung Series 5 47"LCD Problems (tried all solutions i found) OK at my wits end now. Heres the testing I have done. Have the ps3 connected to the set using the av cable works fine. Have it connected with the hdmi cable nothing Connect both cables and view through the a/v cable and it detects a HDMI device and asks should i use it. When I select yes, nothing, although the tv detects and changes mode I get a black screen (no sound either as far as I can tell) To test the lead I have plugged it into my laptop and the laptop displays just fine on my tv at full1080p with sound. The tv is 1 year old, samsung 5 series 47" This morning i tried a firmware update on the tv, which is now fully up to date - made no difference. Using teh service menu on the tv i can see that the tv is HDCP compliant, I thought this might have been an issue but I guess not. I have also tried turning everything off, unplugging it all for at least 5 minutes, and bringing it all back on in just about every sequence i can think of. I have tried the hold for 5 seconds reset trick on the ps3 which does always reset it and re-detects a hdmi cable, but alas, no dice if i try and use it. any suggestions guys?

    hi thanks for your reply.
I cant really get access to another ps3 as I live in spain and dont really know anyone here. lol.

I cant hook up a blu ray player on that same port as I dont have one. But i have tried my laptop on the same port with the same lead and it works just fine.
(my laptop has a hdmi out port)

Make sure ur not using both the av cable and the hdmi on some models it causes conflict although they are on different inputs. also did you try using a blu ray player or another ps3 on that hdmi port using the same cables or different cables? if another equipment work/don't work u can at least start to narrow down your problem..

i am aware that the ps3 video going out. here is something you can try
to restore the ps3 it fixes many of software side of things for the ps3.

    someone posted this......
I almost went crazy with this! I tried everything everyone was saying
and nothing worked. Finally I came across a posting that said as
follows: 1. Turn off ps3 at back. 2. Turn off tv, and unplug it,
wait several seconds to reset. 3. turn on tv first, make sure your input
setting is set for the ps3 (you may have to quickly switch after
turning on the ps3 at front) 4. turn on ps3 at back, then turn ps3 on at
front, wait about 2 seconds, then press and hold ps3 button and the
screen should pop up asking you about the video settings

this is another method i found on this site
i got this from getupart from this site and he/she said....

    1.
Turn Off in back (wait few seconds for it to re-set)
    2. Turn on in
    back
    3. Turn on in front and hold your finger on it 'till it turns
    off again -
(you get the beep on then the three beeps for reset
and it will eventually beep again and turn off)
    4. Turn off in back
(wait few seconds for it to re-set)
    5. Turn on in back
    6. Turn on
in front hold finger for three beeps and damn it works!

You will have to manualy set up hd settings again for it to be compatible, simple. when switching on ps3 hold down the on/off button for around 7 secs till you hear a couple of beeps, this will allow the system to conect to the new HD setting.

I try and play dvd's in my playstation 3, and within about 5 seconds, it says 'loss of signal' i sent if back but they found no problem with it... yet the problem of not playing movies has not been fixed.

simple solution if you are using hdmi the tv must be on first and to the correct input then turn on the ps3 . also you may have a bad hdmi cable. try using a differnet connection to your tv. let me know asap if that works i have swome more solutions.

"no signal" showing on tv screen

  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

Problem connecting HDMI cable

Hey there I don't see why your playstation 3 should be doing that other than the console being defective. Sony doesn't have this problem that often and actually this is the first time i have heard of such problem. Try making sure the the HDMI cable is connected at both ends all the way in and also make sure your Samsung is a 1080P which i am pretty sure it is and finally if you have a friend or another 1080P HDTV in your house i would try and see if your ps3 will support the 1080P feature. If you still have the problem even when you use a different TV then its the ps3 that is malfunctioning otherwise it would be your Samsung. Let me know how that turns out alright.
