HP Deskjet 5740 Printer

When the unit is switched on there is a loud ratchet type noise for about five seconds. The noise is repeated when selecting a print 'job' The unit works perfectly for the period of that printing.
The noise is coming from the left hand end immediately behind the operating switch.
The noise is loud and disturbing.

Hello Warbie2 ,

Your issue may be the laser/scanner motor. Usually sound like a jet engine warming up when starting to print and then has a whinning down sound after the paper has printed. Usually you need to replace the complete laser/scanner assembly. On some models the shaft of the motor can be lightly lubricated but I yours I do not think so and if you use to much you will destroy the optics.

Hi,

Did you check if there is anything obstructing movement inside the printer?

Also, make sure that there are no paper jams and that the cartridges are installed correctly.

Also, try disconnecting the unit for a few hours to reset it.

How do i put photo paper in a HP Deskjet 5740?

Depending what size of photo paper you are trying to load, you will get slightly different instructions, see HP's website for tutorials for various types/sizes of paper.

My hp deskjet 5740 shows up with asian language not english in the set up boxes and it is impossible to work out fonts, paper feed, portrait/landscape etc, can you offer a fix

Just unstalled the driver by deleting the printer from the printer and fax in control panel and unplug your printer from the system.

Go to this link below and download the printer driver by selecting your operating System

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=357202&lang=en&

Double click the installer and in the language column select english (if by default it can be any asian language). Connect your printer only after finishing installation. If the installtion wizard search for the printer hardware, select you will connect it later.

This will solve your problem.

HP Deskjet 5740 printer both orange lights are blinking and wont print

  • I replaced both carts with HP brand, no joy.
  • I cleaned the cart/printer connections, no joy.
An interesting aside is that if one or the other cart is removed, the appropriate LED goes out and the other blinks. At least some of the sensing circuitry sees the cart.

Anyone have a schematic of the cart/printer electronics?

Noise inside left end

I really and not seen this model but HP has their own constant in their engineering and that is the paper transport mechanism the plastic gears when they sound off the hair behind my neck raises. I call it a death call although it can benew but I believe ther is an opposing force onb this train and you may consider opening it to see the gears.
While the print job is going is the noise constant ?
