Probably not, USB does not provide enough current to charge this type of battery, ergo Canon does not support USB charging. You can buy a third party charger and battery set for not very much and keep this camera working.

There are many ways to troubleshoot this problem.
First try to insert new batteries and then tap on the sides of the camera and turn on the camera. It will switch on if the problem is due to loose connection.

Secondly, clean the battery terminal before inserting new batteries and check through a multimeter, whether the battery terminal is receiving the power properly from the battery. If there is no power, you need to contact canon to get the element replaced. If there is power in terminal and still not switching on there is some chance that lens is stuck inside, and it is not allowing to switch on. So clean the lens and try to turn on the camera it will work fine.

If you still have the problem then it tends to be the problem of the circuit board inside the camera.

Take the battery out of the camera, put it into the supplied charger, and plug the charger into a wall outlet.

Did you reolaced battery that evening, if you did then try holding the battery door tight and the turn it on. If this will solve it it means that there is a play in battery door that happens very often if someone is not careful enough while replacing battery or merory card.

You can give it to an expert for repair, he can repair it for less as there must be just a fuse problem, which can be fixed for a very less amount.

That's it, the battery's defective, it's not the camera...unless you've tried another (new) battery...

Wow, this is trully amazing. I went to do a search on why my camera wouldnt turn on the past couple of days, even after i charged all THREE of my batteries and found similar complaints within the same time frame!! WOW. We need to get together and fight this, cause its suspect!!! I bought mine in Mass, anyone else?
