I just had the same problem today. My Impression was working fine one minute and the next thing I know it went into "No SIM mode" and all I was able to do was make emergency 911 calls.
I went into the store and the representative took a look at it. He asked me if I had tried to change any passwords, etc. because apparently that can be a cause. In my case, however, it was just that my SIM card was so old that it kind of gave up and stopped working. I got it replaced (for free) and now it works like before.
I don't know if it can be fixed any other way, so my advice is to just take it in.
