F2 means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

On some models, you can get the membrane keypad replaced by a servicer or your can do it yourself, but on some models, you would have to order a new control panel frame which comes with a new keypad.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

How do I fix the key pad of a Kenmore microwave model 401.80084700?

I don't know of anyway to repair the keypad. Usually replacement (of the keypad/control console) is the only option. But you might want to remove the ribbon cable that connects the keypad to the control board behind it, clean it with a degreaser (like Fantastic or 409), dry it, and re-insert it, and then try again. (Remember to unplug the microwave oven first before you try that!)

No key's work. Display and inside light is working

The Keypad is either faulty, or disconnected. Open the case, and remove the screws, holding the outer shell on. Inside, there should be a small board that covers the Keypad. Check to see if there is a ribbon cable, or some other type of connection going from the board to another part of the microwave. If all of the wires are connected, then you will probably need to replace the keypad.

Sharp Carousel Microwave - R1481 keypad doesn't work

No! I'am afraid not, the problem is in the keypad control board, the whole assembly must be replaced, the part alone will cost around $100.00 or more depending on make and model.

My microwave/convection oven (a GE unit model JES1290SK) started beeping every few seconds and displaying F6 on the control panel. I unplugged it and waited several minutes and when plugged in it displays...

The technical sheets in my files do not list F6 on the error code chart for GE microwaves.

Generally, these are the error codes possible on GE microwaves:

F1 open thermal sensor (convection models)
F2 shorted thermal sensor (convection models)
F3 key panel shorted for more than 60 seconds
F4 open humidity sensor
F5 shorted humidity sensor

There should be a "mini-manual" (technical sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

Model mh1150xms3 displays F2 and touchpad stops working

F2 on a Whirlpool microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it cooking unattended.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It's actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

40716d4.jpg

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

The part numbers to order are shown below by color you can get it here.

8185288 Biscuit
8185287 Black
8204739 Stainless

F2 code on display - microwave does not heat

F2 on this model means you have a shorting membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

On this model, the membrane keypad is available already mounted on a new control panel frame. It runs a little more, but saves a lot of time consuming and aggravating work.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you remove a few more screws and disconnect the wires.

It is part # AP3673562 (same as 8205018) and runs $80.97 + shipping here.

Kenmore elite microwave oven displays "Locked" and will not respond

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.

MY MICROWAVE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING

I couldn't find those exact trouble codes, but a common problem is when the controller gets damp, either from steam rising from the cooktop or someone spraying cleaner directly on the keypad. Cleaners should always be sprayed on a soft cloth, then wipe the keypad with the cloth. Also, GE / Samsung codes of F1, F2 and F3 may be the same since Samsung makes GE microwaves. Those would mean trouble with the temperature sensor, keypad, or control panel. Assuming your control panel is clean and dry, it may be time to call for service.

Kenmore microwave

If this has a controller that runs a microwave and an oven, then the problem F2 means a temperature related fault such as a bad temp sensor / thermostat or a defect in the control board. If it's just a microwave, then the problem is likely a failing keypad. In many cases, those can be replaced economically. If you repost with your exact model number (62622 is not a complete model number) then we can advise you further and more specifically.
