Printer software will have a menu for cleaning the heads when they get dirty or clogged. Try that. You can also , if possible, remove the print head and soak it for a few hours in cleaning solution.

SOURCE: Won't recognize color ink cartridge

This is a common problem with Kodak 5000 series and ESP series printers.
Check the silver contacts on the ink cartridges for small scratches in the center. The scratches indicate that the ink cartridges have made contact with the appropriate connections in the printer. If no marks are visible, the cartridge was not seated properly. If the contacts look ok, you'll have to call Kodak again. It's highly likely that the recertified printer you received was returned for the same problem. If you point out the fact that you are experiencing the same problem for the second time, you may wind up with an upgrade to an ESP5. Don't accept another printhead replacement as thiat will not resolve the problem.

Where you can see the light indicator that the color ink is empty on your computer or on the printer itself? If on the printer itself I believed that you have a flashing redlight on the printer., Now please try to reseat the color Ink cartridges 2 times., you may also try to remove the Printhead., By doing that remove both the ink cartridges and followed by the printhead. now if you already done and still you have that flashing redlight call kodak Toll free at 1 800 421 6699 For US support.

Now if the empty ink cartridges shows only on your computer it means that you need to re establish the connection of your computer and your printer you need to call kodak and they will assist you how to do the reconnection

The Kodak printers are designed in such a way so as to work with combination of Both color and black ink..In other printers, the prints are not that sharp, but In kodak printers color are awesome because even if we print black and white, the color from the color ink is also taken to give you those lifetime prints.Unfortunately There is no way to overcome this ink indicator. You cans et the preferences in the printer settings to print in black and white in your computer .

Clean the print head for an HP F380

If the cartridges are new, make sure you removed the, (sometimes clear), tape that the manufacturer places over the shinny metallic ink distribution slots, (shinny objects on the underside of the cartridges, like the previous answers have described). Otherwise, make sure the cartridges are the correct model for your printer, and I use a dab of alcohol on my q-tips to clean off old dried ink from the contacts. The contacts are very obvious once the cartridges are removed. Make sure to unplug the printer once you have removed the cartridges to access the contacts, before cleaning. And be gentle with the contacts, rub gently. And clean the cartridge contacts and ink dispensing slots as well, and gently as well. As previously mentioned, you should get ink on the q-tip when cleaning the ink distribution slots. Three colors, yellow blue and red from the color cartridge and black from the black cartridge. So clean the contacts first, then do the ink dispensers last to avoid adding ink to the contacts with a ink soggy q-tip. Good luck and be gentle.

Empty yellow cartridge, but cannot print in black?

Most printers use a little of all inks in their functioning, just to keep all the inks flowing, so while it is not printing yellow, it uses it in the startup mode to verify function and cleaning mode to clean the nozzles. Manufacturers usually do not put in a bypass for this, because they make money mostly on selling you ink cartridges.

Color

Recheck the placement of the ink cartridges. The black ink cartridge is larger; the cyan, magenta, yellow cartridges are all the same size.

When the ink cartridges were replaced, two or more may have been inadvertently switched or an extra yellow cartridge placed in.

Horizontal colored lines through grayscale printed photos

Hi George,

It sound's like an ink-feed issue:

1) Dirty heads, even after cleaning
2) No-ink or poor quality ink
3) Damaged head: some are part of the cartridge, some are not
4) Air bubbles in ink

The test page is typically not as hi-res nor as saturated as a
photo print. The hi-res photo puts the greatest demand on the print head.

The color lines you see are actually lines of missing color,
where the head has failed to deposit ink, so one or two primary
colors are missing from the complete picture.

For example missing yellow will make a blue line.
Missing magenta will make a green line
Missing cyan will make a red line.... etc..

Clean the heads again and again, print again and again,
hoping to flush the system.

BUT, keep in mind that cleaning wastes huge amounts of
ink and tiny little cartridges of ink cost more than many new printers.

C88 only green and yellow

You are out of black and magenta (tricolor cartridge) ink or ink has dried up.
Try touching the nozzle plate (underneath print cartridge) with a water dampened cloth (not alcohol) for cleaning clogged nozzles (do not rub).
Ultimate remedy : put in contact nozzle plate with hot water for about 5 seconds.
If color still missing your printer need new cartridges.
