Try using the heel of your shoe and pulling back on the brake/clutch pedal and see if it helps. Cronic problem with these mowers-Belt slipping when linkage get a little wear-with no solution???
Pulling back on the brake pedal definitely tightens the belt. Looking closely, there is nothing but the big spring tensioning the belt.. Don't see how loose or worn linkage could affect anything there.
I replace the spring, both front and back drive pulleys, and the belt. It worked OK for a while, but after an hours use, the belt was slipping again. I was thinking of drilling a new hole in the frame and stretching the spring another inch or two.

Sounds like the trans-axle is going bad. Belt tension is maintained by a rather large spring so unless the spring is broken this is unlikely. There are no serviceable components on the trans-axle the entire unit needs to be replaces. Easy but expensive job. These are the things that the Sears service plans are for.
