Using Dell PC Restore by Symantec
NOTICE: Using Dell PC Restore permanently deletes all data on the hard drive and removes any applications or
drivers installed after you received your computer. If possible, back up the data before using PC Restore. Use PC
Restore only if System Restore did not resolve your operating system problem.
NOTE: Dell PC Restore by Symantec is not available in all countries or on all computers.
Use Dell PC Restore by Symantec only as the last method to restore your operating system.
PC Restore restores your hard drive to the operating state it was in when you purchased the computer.
Any programs or files added since you received your computer-including data files-are permanently
deleted from the hard drive. Data files include documents, spreadsheets, e-mail messages, digital photos,
music files, and so on. If possible, back up all data before using PC Restore.
To use PC Restore:
1 Turn on the computer.
During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.
2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press <Ctrl><F11>.
If you do not press <Ctrl><F11> in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart the
computer again.
NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.
3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.
4 On the next screen, click Confirm.
The restore process takes approximately 6-10 minutes to complete.

5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.
NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.
6 When prompted, click Yes.
The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that
appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the
computer was turned on.
7 Click Next.
The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.
8 After the computer restarts, click OK.

1 Turn the computer off and then turn it back on. Hold down the "F8" key when the computer starts to enter Windows Boot mode.

3 Log into your system as an administrator. Enter the administrator password into the field when prompted and then click on the "OK" button to log in.
4 Type "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" and press the "Enter" key to begin the computer's restore process.
5 Go through the system restore prompts to restore your HP computer.


Restoring an HP computer to factory settings requires that you do a system recovery. There are two types of recovery for HP computers: destructive and non-destructive .

This will be a long process of troubleshooting and may end up of restoring your computer to a factory settings. You can try the steps below:
First is boot up to advance boot options, to do this follow the steps below: -Turn off your computer -After pressing the turn on button start tapping F8 key until you see the Advance Boot Option. -Try choosing Last Known Good Configuration if it fail try Safemode, Safemode with networking or safemode with command prompt, if one is successful use system restore to restore your computer to an earlier date but if it fails you'll need to use your Operating System Disc to use the repair option.
Here's how to access system restore incase you're able to access Last Known Good Configuration, Safemode, Safemode with networking or safemode with command prompt: Windows XP: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore select Restore my computer to an earlier time then select a bold date on the calendar and click Next on the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer. Then click OK on the System Restore Restoration Complete page.
Windows 7 and Windows Vista: Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore select Restore my computer to an earlier time then select a bold date on the calendar and click Next on the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows configuration, and then restarts the computer. Then click OK on the System Restore Restoration Complete page.
If you're on safemode with command prompt: At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER, System Restore window will pop-up then select Restore my computer to an earlier time then select a bold date on the calendar and click Next on the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows configuration, and then restarts the computer. Then click OK on the System Restore Restoration Complete page.
If all the steps above fails you need to use the recover disc or the operating system disc to do a repair on your computer. Revert back in case you need steps for using start-up repair.
Note: If the steps above and start-up repair fail there's no other option but to restore your computer to factory settings.

What's the brand and the operating system of your computer? Usually manufacturers has a factory image restore set on the computer if your computer has that there's no need to use a CD to restore your computer. Though there are some issues that image restore is not working for some reason, if that is the case, there's no other option but to use an operating system disc to restore your computer.

If you get that message every time you run system restore, that restore point is no longer any good. You need to try a different restore point on a different date. System restore is NOT meant to be a backup. You need to be running a backup of your computer if you don't want to lose your data. Hopefully you will have another restore point, possibly earlier than the one you used, which is good. If you need to reinstall windows, you will need to get a disk. Restore the computer:

To use System Restore follow these steps:

1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.

If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you are finished.

boot with the Windows 98 cd in the drive and go to dos, enter chkdsk /r to repair and restore system files.

If you are having a specific problem it might help to know more exactly what you are seeing.

This time after you uninstall the norton antivirus, it's been corrupted your VGA Drivers & etc., I don't know what else have been corrupted after you uninstall.
All you have to do is restore the system or system restore.
If you enter at Windows Safe Mode the restore using checkpoints on your system.
If not then reformat you windows.

Here are the tips on how to use system restore.

Using System Restore To start System Restore, click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. You'll see options allowing you to create restore points and restore your computer to a previous time. If you've already performed a restoration, you'll see a third option to undo the last restoration.
To create a restore point:

1. Choose Create a Restore Point and click Next.
2. Type a descriptive name for the restore point in the Restore Point Description (the date and time will be added automatically) and click Next.
3. Click OK.

To restore your computer:

1. Start System Restore, choose Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time, and click Next.
2. In the calendar, choose a day (those with restore points are bolded) and select a restore point, then click Next.
3. Make sure your files and programs are closed and click OK, then Next.
4. Wait while the restoration takes place. You'll need to reboot your computer. If you encounter problems after rebooting, reboot once more.

If you find you need to undo a restoration:

1. Start System Restore.
2. Select Undo My Last Restoration.
3. Close any open files or programs and click Next.
