I am getting memory locked! message - Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

If after sliding it you still get the same message then the card controler has detected that the memory chip inside it is about to die and has locked it to allow you enough time to recover all the files from it. Once the files are copied junk the card, it's dead.

Cards are coming in different formats and it might be possible that you brought a card which is not suitable or functional with your camera. The other reason could be that we are having options to lock our memory card in digital camera and you might have taken out your earlier card without unlocking it. The system might be broken from inside and this could be a reason that you are still getting a message that memory card is locked. It seems possible based on problem you are sharing.

For the message that show's on your camera here's is what your need to do. 1. Remove the memory card and check for the physical lock toggle.
2. Toggle the lock on and off.
3. Try blowing on the memory card and the memory card port so it will be cleaned somehow. here is the picture of the lock toggle of the SD memory card

Move the slide switch on the side of the card.

This happened to me. My problem was that i had a memory card, and i accidently put the save options for my pictures to my phone memory instead of to card memory. So it messed up my phone.

The phone's memory is full, which causes the error message and lock ups. This error prevents you from freeing up memory by deleting messages.

Try the following (taken from the Nokia support forum): http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/discussions/board/message?board.id=hardware&thread.id=7775

1. Delete unused names/numbers from the address book to free up memory. (Perhaps write down the ones you want to keep for later re-entry)
2. Once a critical threshold is reached the msg inbox indicator will blink on
3. Enter inbox and DELETE as many messages as you can before phone freezes up again
4. If phone freezes or you get the error message again, restart and keep deleting from the phone book until it allows you hassle-free msg inbox access as per normal (but don't forget to continue deleting thos messages).
