My inspiron 1501 prints gt when you type g and hy when I type y. If I use the backspace the whole line disappears. I replaced the keyboard and updated all drivers I could find at Dell. Help.

solution, replace your keypads for your laptop.
problem with the keyboard itself. it is an electronic fault on the keypads. replace it and it should be ok.

tap on your num lock key... and if it still wont work, try to do a system restore from the date when you remembered you're pc was not having that kind of problem. start menu >> all programs >> accessories >> system tools >> system restore.
Hello there. The Inspiron 1510 was released almost 5 years ago. If your system is more than 2 years old, then perhaps you will have to replace the battery. Battery for the most part, will only last 1 to 2 years. As for the battery, try connecting an external USB keyboard. If its working, then you need to replace the laptop's keyboard. Hope this will help.
Does the issue occur in Safe Mode (Press F8 at boot, select safe mode) If not then a program is likely conflicting, run a virus and spyware scan.
If the issue does occur in safe mode, try adjusting keyboard settings in COntrol panel
