Dell Latituse D600 display goes dark

My Daughter has a Dell Latitude D600. About 2 weeks ago it became very hot on the bottom right hand corner of the screen surround causing a small area of the screent to change colour. After leaving to cool and then re-booting the problem had disappeared.

Then the screen started going dark, a faint image still visible. Now the screen only comes on for a few seconds at boot and similarly a few seconds on depressing the lid closure switch.

Is thsi the backlight or inverter that is failing?

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is faulty or bad, since it goes black after few seconds, it means the picture board of your laptop has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the laptop to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself. in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

    Hello,

From all indication, am sure the laptop did not hit anything.

It means it is the inverter that is faulty. So all you to do is just to replace the inverter and your laptop screen is back.

    Take care.

I Turn on my Dell Latitude D600, goes to desktop, no icons appear in the bottom right corner, then freezes and all of the desktop icons disappear and all that is visible is the wallpaper. What do I do?

Restart the Computer and when the Computer is Turned Off and trying to Come back On keep on tapping the F8 Button on the Keyboard, till you get the Advanced Boot Options. On the Advanced Boot Options select the Option which says Safe Mode and Press Enter. Let Me know If you face the same Kind Off Situation even in the Safe Mode!

When I unplug the printer from my Dell Latitude D610 laptop, the battery icon appears on the bottom right hand corner instead of the "ON AC power" icon and the computers shut down due to a low battery....

Your AC power supply is not providing power - The printer is supplying your laptop with power via the usb port. When you unplug the printer, the laptop runs on battery until it goes dead. You will need another AC power supply,

Good Luck

Mouse goes crazy and other things.

This seems to be caused by a faulty driver on the system.. you need to update the drivers from the Dell site... here is the link

Dell latitude d600-vga

The flickering may not be caused by a corrupt driver, it could be the impending failure of the fluorescent back light of the display or its high voltage supply.

Trying driver replacement though is the first thing to try.
If the original driver is corrupt, you can try the following;

- Right-click on My Computer
- Left-click on Properties
- Click on Hardware tab
- Click on Device Manager
- Locate and open Display Adaptors
- Locate the video listing for your
- Highlight and delete this
- Reboot the computer

If Windows does what it should (no guarantee on this!), it will 'find' a 'new device' and install the driver for it.

Display not working properly

You should be able to plug in an external (Desktop type) monitor . Look for a connector on the side or back of the laptop. If the external monitor works, you have pretty much diagnosed that you have a LCD problem.
