Hi,I have a Bathtub Shower Valve that is not working

Hi, I have a Bathtub Shower Valve that is not working. (The middle one that turns the Shower head on) I would like to know how to remove it from the wall. I bought the Wrench Socket set for it already.
It is an American Stanard Faucet (about 20 years old).
1. I unscrewed the Cap (covering the screw)
2. I removed the screw
Now, I thought that I was supposed to just pull the handle off. It seems to be stuck or am I supposed to remove something else?
Also, do I have to turn off the main water supply? or do I just shut the hot and cold knobs in the shower?

Thanks for your help.

SHUT OFF THE WATER SUPPLY VALVE BEHIND THE SHOWER.THOSE HANDLES ARE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE,SQUIRT WD-40,LET IT SOAK IN,THEN GIVE IT A LITTLE TAP ON THE HANDLE ,BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE IT.IF YOU CAN NOT STILL REMOVE THE HANDLE,THEY SELL A HANDLE PULLER,

Testimonial: "Thanks..... It worked like a champ. The handle was stuck. I let it soak in WD40 and it pulled off (with a lot of force). Just like you said. Thanks again, I appreciate it!!!!!!!!"

How do I fix a shower when the pull-up on the incoming water spout will not redirect the water to the shower head?

You'll probably have to replace the bathtub spout. Here is a cut away view of a typical bathtub spout with the water redirect.

My husband in stalled in shower vavle body. When bathtub is filling, water comes out shower head any ideas.

It's possible you installed the valve upside down, all values should be labeled in some way marking either hot and cold or it will say the word up where the riser tube port for the shower head is. If that's not the case remove the tub spout and check for any obstruction sometimes during tile or constructing debris can get into the pipe for your tub spout. Lastly the diverter on the tub spout could be bad. Try a new tub spout

I'm not sure what brands my faucet or handles are.

You can remove the center (Diverter valve) without turning water off, Will need deep well socket. Check the o rings and or washers and replace or take valve to Home depot to match with new. If you can't find one there go to local plumbing supply or ace. I turn hot then cold on and off real Quick while the valve is out just to clear anything that might be in lines. stand to the side or you will get wet! You might want to get new hot and cold valves while your at it just make sure to turn off water at meter before you remove them.

What to do if i can't stop the water flowing from the shower spout and there's little water pressure coming from the shower head and a hand held shower?

One rule I live by: more parts, more problems. Sounds to me that the plumbing/valves were not insalled properly. If you hired a profesional plumber, have them fix it. I am a licensed profesional plumber and I offer a 1 year warranty on all my work. If the contractor did the work and does not hold a plumbing license, that person is still responsible and may have to suffer legal consequenses.

Push Pull Shower Valve also off in middle position

If you turn it to left or right (hot or cold) and get water out of the shower head,we'll elimate cloged shower head.If it just doesnt work in the middle ,probily a washer is stuck in your diverter,or to better understand>a part inside your shower knob assembly is clogging the water that goes up to your shower head. If you get water out of the shower head in the just cold possition or just hot position, then you will have to dissasemble the unit to repair. If you get no water in the cold or hot position could just be a clogged shower head.If you dont know how to disasemble a Shower diverter ,I wouldn't recommend taking it apart. Hope this helped!

Took a shower and then the water would not turn off no matter how I turned the handle.

Check beneath the bathroom sink there must be a valve to close the water from going into the bathtub. Or check for a little door near the bathtub find that valve and close it. You have to buy a new handle cause that one is ruined. If you don't find the valve, remove a plastic cover that it's in the middle of the handle, there must be a philip screw in there, take it out, remove the handle and then with shearing pliers turn counter clockwise and it will close.

I have hot water in my bathroom sink, but not to my shower/bathtub all of a sudden.I went and checked the line and felt it,still plenty hot.I turned the valve off and back on,came back inside and had hot...

You don't indicate what kind of valve(s) you have in your shower/bathtub.

It is sometimes the case, when you have separate hot and cold valves that use the traditional flat washer, the rubber/viton washer wears over time and actually becomes cut, such that a part of the washer protrudes from the valve face.

Hot water will cause the distorted washer to expand. Consequently, as more and hotter water flows through the valve, the washer expands to the point where it constricts the flow of hot water.

Replace the washer, at least on the hot water valve.

Shower head and bathtub faucet both running when showering

Sounds like diverter valve which is your shower handle valve is bad take it apart and check out and replace it if possible because that transfer water to shower head.

I have a positemp one lever bathtub handle. we

Because the tile was added after the valve was set to correct depth, you will have to get a extention kit. They are only available at a supply house. This will extend handle further away so the handle wont scratch any more.
