I have a faded blue colour radiating our from the centre of the screen. I thought that the bulb needed changing but on changing the bulb the blue colour remains. The picture can still be seen but the colour is far from perfect.

You might have to change the input or start playing blu-ray disc and then change input via the remote to your projector. Make sure it's HDMI out on blu-ray if choice is given and HDMI in on projector.
Does the blue tint show up as small rectangular pixel shapes when you get up close to the screen when focused properly. This would indicate a blue LCD panel fault. If it's fuzzy then possibly a blue polarizer overheating
Is the whole screen bluish in colour or just areas. If you look closely at the screen are the bluish areas composed of rectangular pixel shapes. If it is then the blue lcd panel may have dead pixels, otherwise it's a glass polarizer plate that may be degraded due to aging.
You probably have to lower the resolution on your PC before you connect the projector. The frequense also can´t be to hight. Start with 800*600 at first then on increase if it works.
If this projector is an LCD (liquid crystal display), your LCD probably gone. This usually happens after a period of time with an LCD projector.Try cleaning the LCD or take it to your Sony dealer.

Its your blue polarizer going bad. This happens over time due to the excessive heat generated in the projector. The main problem is that your projector has organic LCD panels that degrade over time and in turn degrades your blue polarizer. The same thing happened to my sanyo Z2. It took 5 years for it to show on my Sanyo because I only use the projector for sports and movies. not daily tv watching. In any case, it isnt worth it to spend the money ti fix it...jut put tat towrds a new projector. The latest crop of LCD projectors almost all use in-organic LCD panels that last much longer. Hope this helps.
The blue or yellow haze problem in this projector is because of two factors. 1) Dust buildup inside the optics and 2) Fading colour filters used in the internal optical process.
Inside the projector the white light from the lamp is split into three distinct colours of red, green and blue. Each colour illuminates their own monochrome LCD. Those LCDs are mounted on a prism that combines the separate images and displays the result you see via the lens.
The optical process to split the light up inside the projector is fairly complex and involves many light filters and mirrors to direct the light to the appropriate lcds. Those filters and lenses accumulate dust and also fade over time due to heat and other environmental factors.
I know that sharp sells replacement filters at $100 a piece. I do not know if Hitachi sells replacements.
To remove the dust and change filters you have to take apart the projector in a fairly complex way. I do not suggest that the average user do this. Good luck!
