Nikon f100 film won't advance - Nikon F100 35mm SLR Camera

I too like old school camera, mine are the N2000, N6006, N80, and F100. First without film in the camera I would attempt to release the shutter. If it does then there is something going on with the film transfer causing a bind.

However, If it continues not to release the shutter I would put the FM10 on the shelf then go to KEH.com for another. Just now checked KEH.com, 2014-05-26, a FM10 in EX condition is $89, EX+ condition $99. That would be a much better move than repairing yours and less expensive.

They will be able to tell you if it needs to go in for service; it sounds as though it does.

Which battery holder are you using? The small one or the grip MB-15? If it is the MB-15 make sure it is screwed in tight. If it is the small one then make sure your batteries are in the correct direction. If that does not work call Nikon Film 1-800-645-6687.

If you are positive the film is advancing as you shoot photos then call Nikon Film 1-800-645-6687. It may need to go in for a CLA.

Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.

film advance motor =dead . repairs are about $200

Thanks for your email. In the meantime I learned my problems were not uncommon with early production F100s; the culprit is the switching circuitry under the film advance mode dial, which has to be replaced. Essex Camera of Carlstadt, NJ, will do the repair, including general service, at a cost of $ 150. Sincerely,

"End" can be a message for "film over" or for a film jam in the cam. Did you check for this already?

You just need to use the right film, ask your local retailer
