High Shank Machines are all the Janome Embroidery models MC 8000, MC 9000, 10000, 10001, 11000, 200E, 300E, 350E....etc
If yours is not an embroidery machine, it has a LOW SHANK .....the higher shank allows for easier access for the embroidery hoop

SOURCE: ruffler for viking 1050

The available ruffler is a generic part. But, it is made for most Low Shank machines. ANd no, you can not change the shank from high to low. Doing that or attempting to do that will not allow the needle to go all the way down as it would set for a high shank.

SOURCE: I need a zipper foot attachment for putting on

It's a low shank machine. There are piping feet but I'm not sure if there are any that fit janome machines.

How do I know if my janome 5700 is high shank or low shank?

Hi there, If the length from the bottom of the presser foot to the center of the screw is half an inch, you have a low shank machine. If you measure 1 inch or longer, you have a high shank machine. Hope this helps, have a great day!

Is Bernina 450 a low shank machine or a high shank

Using Standard Low Shank Feet
There are 2 different adaptors available that will allow you to use standard low shank presser feet and snap on feet. Some people prefer this method instead of forking out $20-$50 per Bernina presser foot. If you have other sewing machines, it may make sense financially to invest in more low shank or snap on feet that you can take from machine to machine. If you decide to go this route, I just want to remind you that if your machine uses the presser feet with the sensors, these adaptors will not trigger those sensors.
Use Snap On Presser Feet
This snap on presser foot adaptor is available in both old style and new style. When ordering your generic snap on feet for this shank adaptor, be sure you're ordering the correct maximum stitch width that your machine has. This is a very convenient shank since you're able to quickly switch between many different feet without having to remove the shank.
Use Low Shank Presser Feet
Chances are if you sew, you have low shank feet laying around (or 40). This low shank presser foot adaptor is available in both old styleand new style. Simply install this shank like a normal Bernina foot, and then screw your low shank foot to the shank. If you install a low shank foot onto this adaptor, be sure to test with a wide zig zag to make sure the installed foot is wide enough to accommodate your machines maximum stitch width.

Is bernina 930 a low shank or high shank machine

Bernina has feet that are specific to their machines only. They have old and new style feet depending when the machine was made. You cannot put generic low, high, slant or snap on feet on a Bernina sewing machine.

My machine is a Husqvarna Prism 980, and I'd like to know if it's a high shank or low shank.

Take a Measure

With the presser foot in the down position, measure from the Needle plate of the machine to the center of the thumb screw of the ankle of the machine (the part that the presser foot snaps on to).

Low Shank - measures ½"
High Shank - measures 1"

Most consumer machines are low shank. There is probably not a walking foot that is made for this machine but there may be some third party suppliers that have a walking foot that will work. Stitchery Sewing Machine Attachments Needle and Thread

My Necchi 681c has snap on feet, can other makes used with it

Yes, probably. You'll need to unscrew the little gizmo that holds the snap on feet, then you can use that same screw and hole in the shank to screw on other types of feet. The most important thing is to know whether you have a low shank, high shank, or slanted shank machine, because feet of one type can't be used on other types (low shank feet can't be used on high shank or slanted shank machines, for example).

Attaching walking foot

you probably purchased the incorrect walking foot for your specific machine. check and make sure if you have a high shank or a low shank....the way to determine if you have a low-shank is to measure the screw from the plate and look at the distance if it is 5/8 then you have a low, any higher about 1in. then you have a high shank, so you would purchase a foot depending on your shank.
