I have the same problem. Actually, it seems for Sony official web site that Windows Vista is not supported with DCR-TRV22E. It's a shame. Sony should provide the update driver; instead they are forcing us to buy a new camera. That is not consistent with great customer satisfaction

Then choose your version of Vista and download the software. Once you have installed the software you can then connect your camera to your laptop and use that software.
I contacted Sony and was told to use a firewire cable. Make sure that Firewire or i-link is installed on your computer. I use a laptop with Vista and this worked first time.

Sony's website has an installation tool for Vista that requires the model #, Serial # and product number from your software cd that came with the camera.
I have tried to get DCR-TRV22E to work on vista using USB on HP pavilion tx 2000. No joy!!!
Is there anyone out there with an answer. Compatability was mentioned as an issue in one of the windows that came up.
