My microwave is not heating-- the control panel seems to work-- you punch in the buttons and it starts counting down the minutes, but nothing happens except for the clock to count down. The model # is JES1358WL 01. The serial # is TL 923197 U. I do not give my permission to use my email address for anything other than advice for this problem --thank you---mtopper

Since the inside light and fan don't come on but the timer counts down, I would suspect first a door switch problem, or (less likely) a problem on the control panel.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Miele M 625 EG Microwave Oven

A malfunctioning control panel or membrane can cause erratic behavior in your microwave oven. If the control panel is not registering the start command correctly, it may interrupt the cooking cycle. Try cleaning your membrane and control panel with a soft and damp cloth to remove the dust.
If cleaning doesn't resolve this issue, try resetting the microwave oven by unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes, and then plugging it back in.
The microwave may not generate the required heat to cook the food properly if the magnetron or high voltage capacitor is defective. This could lead to the timer counting down without any heating action.

I just moved in here 2.5 weeks ago. At first the none of the numeric buttons on the Emerson mw8119sb worked. Then, after punching them for a while, the 6 worked.

First of try to disconnect it, wait for a minute, then re-power it. After internal tests it's supposed to come up with initial settings (like time/date etc.)

Everything seems to work fine until you hit the start button than nothing happens except the timer starts counting down

If everything appears to be working normally, as you say the timer counts down, the light comes on, turntable rotates etc. then the problem will be linked to the magnetron not operating & not heating the food. This could be just a thermal fuse device which may have gone faulty but if it is a magnetron fault then the cost of getting this replaced can be expensive & it might be more economical to buy a new microwave. I would advise taking it to a local repair centre, one which gives free estimates to get a quote on a price.

JennAir Microwave worked one minute then won't the next.

If this microwave is more than a couple of years old, it's possible that the magnetron tube or a rectifier has burned out. You'll probably need to take it to an experience microwave service technician to get a diagnosis.
