My recorder has stopped functioning and displays only a flashing message "Restoring the file"

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.

I suggest that you to select Reset to Factory Defaults in the System menu to soft reset reset the unit or by pressing Delete and the power button and holding them down to hard reset. Good luck!

Hello you can erase the recorded messages one by one or all massages in folder at time

Note once a recording has been erased, you cannot retrieve it.

Erasing messages one by one

1 Press ERASE while playing back the massage you want to erase or press ERASE for more than 1 second during stop mode.

A beep will sound and the message number and "ERASE" will flash while the first and last 5 seconds of message is played back 10 times

2 Press ERASE while the message is being played back.

The message is erase and the remaining messages will be renumbered. (For example, if you erase Message 3. When erasing is completed, the unit will stop at beginning of the following message.)

Erasing all messages in a folder

1 Press FOLDER to select the folder you want to erase.

2 While pressing STOP, press ERASE for more than 1 second.

"ALL ERASE" will flash for 10 seconds

While the display is flashing, press ERASE.

When the amount of available memory in flash memorybecomes low, "FILE" flashes in the lower left corner ofthe display in all of the submodes of the standard mode as well as in the dive mode. Thewatch automatically switches to the flash memory statusdisplay of the system monitor mode when the water sensor gets wet while thiswarning function is activated. Please note that although it is possibleto use the watch for diving in this state, log data may not be recorded inflash memory during diving. The file error warning function is also activated andadditional log data is not recorded if the duration of a single dive exceeds 2 hours or if morethan 15 dives are made in a single day. The file error warning function may also be activated whenthe water temperature during diving is low. It may not be possible to receive watchsettings by data communication while the file error warning When the watch has switched to the file error warningdisplay, perform the garbage collection procedure in the system monitor mode of the standardmode. Thedisplay returns to normal following completion of garbagecollection. Garbage collection begins when button (C) is pressedfor at least 2 seconds during the flash memory status display. • During the garbage collection operation, an alarmsounds and "G.C." is displayed on the display. Erasing selected file
You can delete a file by the following steps:
1. Select folder (A, B
2. Select file.
3. Press ERASE once and DELETE will flash on the screen.
4. Press and hold ERASE for 3 seconds to confirm deleting. (or press STOP to cancel erasing file)

Erasing all files in a folder
You can delete all files in a specific folder by the following steps:
1. Turn on the unit.
2. Select a folder (A, B).
3. In Stop mode, press FORWARD continuously until “ALL” appears on the display.
4. Press ERASE and “DELETE” will flash on the display.
5. Press and hold ERASE for about 3 seconds, all files in the selected folder will be erased completely (or press STOP to cancel erasing all files).

Format of the DS-30
If you format the recorder, all files will be removed and all function settings will return to defaults except
date and time settings.
1 While the recorder is stopped, press the MENU button for 1 second or longer. The menu opens ( P91,93).
2 Press the + or – button to choose “Format”.
3 Press the OK or 9 button. The “Cancel” indicator flashes.
4 Press the + button to choose “Start”.
5 Press the OK button. After the “Data Will Be Cleared” message is on for two seconds, “Cancel” will turn on.
6 Press the + button again to choose “Start”.
7 Press the OK button. Formatting begins and an indicator flashes
on the display.
“Format Done” displays when formatting ends

Suggestion is to format the device to remove all unwanted data permanently.

4 Formatting the Recorder (FORMAT)
If you format the recorder, all function settings will return to their defaults.
All files stored in the recorder will be deleted.
If you have important files that you want to save, connect the recorder to a computer and
transfer those files from the recorder to the computer before formatting the device.

2 Press the FF or REW button to choose “FORMAT”.
3 When the PLAY button is pressed, “nO” is displayed.
4 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
After “ARE yOU SURE” is displayed, “nO” will be displayed.
5 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
“DONE” displays when formatting ends.
s It may take up to several tens of seconds to finish the initialization. Do not remove the battery or detach
the battery compartment from the recorder during that time. Otherwise data may be damaged.
s Never format the recorder from a PC.
s When the recorder is formatted, all the stored data, including locked files, are erased.

can't record on the my Olympus VN-1000
+ I press rec button and it just shows rec in display (no recording time is shown ONLY rec)
+ there is no play back  or stop function

+ i can only stop  rec by removing batteries (stop or play will stop rec only ONCE - but there is no  useful function - such as play or stop or rec.)
+ I tried all trouble shooting tips in manual  with no effect 
+  i cleaned the spring contacts inside battery compartment that interface with the  batteries
+ it was barely used - and has not been used for a 1 year ( no batteries were inside it )     it was inside a drawer
