this message came up on 5-2-08. shutting down the unit does not help. the problem came while trying to get directions to thomasville, ga. there are listings for 2 thomasville. ga locations on the unit. now the screen shows the "fatal error"message and will not let you do anything. After posting comment on May 03, 2008 Ifound solution to unlocking fatal error message. turn unit on and then hold on/off swith down for 10 to 15 seconds, and this will reset the computer in the unit. May taKE 2 or 3 times. Puts unit back to start-up mode.Mine works fine. Post on this site if it works for you. Thanks, "Guest"

I had that error and when I did a restart (hold in the power button for 10-15 seconds to turn off then again for 10-15 seconds to turn on) the unit restarted fine. Try that.
I just hold the power button down until it powers all the way off ( around 5 seconds or more), then power it up again (you'll have to hold the power button for a while), then reset the clock and go on
