My touch was disabled because the password was entered too many times. I tried this method mentioned above: "hold the home button, and turn on and off your ipod while your usb is pluged in and it will restore keep hold of the home button."

This actually worked!!! I had iTunes open and the touch plugged in through usb. Make sure that it is off to start with. I then held the home button at the same time that I held the on/off button. Continue to hold it like this until you get the usb and itunes symbol on the screen.

You will now be in restore mode and your computer will let you restore and update your touch. Unfortunately this is the only option to getting back onto to the touch once locked out.

Thank goodness this worked...I was worried I would be locked out of mine for good!

Start with this troubleshooter, if you need more assistance, let me know. http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/troubleshooting/ipodtouch/

  • Ekse Aug 27, 2008

First you need to read this page and follow the instructions on settings the touch into recovery mode

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

ones in recovery mode you can remove the code by restoreing the ipod with itunes heres how

    Restore

Note: Because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure to back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library.

    How to restore your iPod:
    For Windows:

        1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
          2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
            3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes.
              4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
                5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:

Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.

                  6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
                    7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
                      8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

Follow this simple steps:

  1. Plug/connect your device to a computer (PC or Mac)
  2. Turn it OFF
  3. Press and hold the POWER and HOME buttons together for EXACTLY 10seconds
  4. Release the POWER button but keep holding the HOME button until the computer beeps indicating that a USB device is recognized.
  5. Open iTunes and restore your device.

Warning: Restoring will delete all data on your device but this is the only way for you to recover it.

If you don't get it at first, try holding the buttons for lesser time or see the other procedures and some screenshots on my tip (link below):

The only way to fix this is to restore it by putting the ipod in DFU (force restore mode)

to do this plug your ipod into the computer, then hold down the power and home buttons untill you here the disconnected sound on your cpu, once you here the noise let go of the power button but keep holding the home button untill you here the connected noise and your ipod screen should be black and if you go into itunes it will let you restore it

Guys, my iPod had been doing the same thing. Listen to what these people are saying. First connect your iPod to the computer, then, hold the button at the top and the button on the front in, at the same time. Keep holding them until the Apple logo appears and it'll show your cord at the bottom of the screen and an iTunes logo right above it. Then, if not already open, open iTunes and it should ask to restore it. If not, you need to call Apple or drop by a store. Good Luck!

For ipod gen 4 - turn off ipod. turn on itunes. Hold down the home button and while still holding it plug the ipod into the computer. Keep holding the home button until itunes responds. Click ok to restore ipod to factory settings and if prompted choose to restore ipod as if it is a new ipod - do not restore to previous backup.
As far as I know you will lose everything you had on your ipod, but at least you will be able to use it again... This is what they made me do when I rung apple for help (after I hd tried all the other suggestions I found on the net..)

If your iPod is disabled from a passcode that is entered too many times you'll want to follow:
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1212

It will instruct your to put your iPod into recovery mode to do a restore to factory setting (this will erase the iPod).

If you have a backup available, that doesn't have the passcode in it then use:
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977

Be warned that if the passcode is on the backup and you do not know the code, then you will be back to square one and have to restore it to factory settings again. Good luck!

To correct problems with iPod Touch, it being disabled or so, it is required for you hold the home button, it will better you get it started, all these has to be while it is connected, this will reset and therefore correct the problems if there exists any. In other cases complete restore may be needed and thereafter it becomes necessary to have your data restored from backup or with the help of ipod data recovery utility that supports iPod touch file recovery.

Try turning off your ipod, holding the home button, and plugging it in, while still holding the home button, until a picture of the ipod cable appears pointing to the itunes symbol. this will reset you ipod, and you don't need the passcode to make it usable again.

Connect to iTunes, go to the settings menu of your iPod (click on the picture of your ipod on the bar on the side.) Then click "restore my ipod's settings," or something similar to that. You will have to re-sync your ipod, but your password will be removed. hope it helps

You will have to restore your ipod to factory default settings in itunes.
or you can jailbreak the ipod with software like quickpwn.

Here is how to restore your ipod in itunes.
You will need to put the itouch in DFU/Recovery mode to get it to connect.

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} Plug the usb cable into the Ipod and NOT into the computer.
Hold the Home Button down for 5 second (do not release it)
Then Press and hold the Power Button for approx 10 secs (count them out)
Your iPod will reboot.
Release the power button and continue holding the Home button for an additional 27secs.
You may see the screen go blank or not.
Plug the USB end into the computer with itunes open.
Your ipod will mount in recovery mode.
Restore it and Your all set.

if you need any further help let me know.
Good Luck

That's kinda long time! But no problem, you just have to follow my instructions on how to put your iPod touch to DFU mode and restore and this problem will be history.
Only thing though is that all data from your iPod will be deleted.

The iPod touch is disabled when the incorrect unlock code is entered too many times. The time the iPod makes you wait increases each time an incorrect unlock code is entered.

There are two ways you should be able to unlock the iPod.
First, connect the iPod to the computer it was last synced with. After iTunes recognizes the iPod, you should be able to enter your unlock code and unlock the iPod.

If the first method doesn't work or you don't remember your unlock code, then do this:
1) Turn the iPod off.
2) Hold down the Home button and connect the iPod to the computer it was last synced with.
3)Release the Home button when the iTunes image appears of the iPod's screen.
4)Wait for iTunes to recognize the iPod and then follow the onscreen directions to restore the iPod.

If neither method works, you will need to contact Apple Customer Support.

Step 1:
The iPod Touch is a type of iPod that features a touch screen and can function as both a portable media player and as a pocket computer. It is possible to password protect your iPod Touch so that you will have to enter a password every time you want to unlock the iPod Touch screen. If you repeatedly enter the incorrect passcode, your iPod Touch will become disabled. To unlock a disabled iPod Touch, you need to sync your iPod Touch device with iTunes on your computer.

Attach the iPod Touch data cable to the bottom of your iPod Touch device and attach the other end of the data cable to an available USB port on your computer. Open iTunes on your computer and then select your iPod Touch device from the list of available devices on the left side of the iTouch window. Click the "Restore" button. If you have previously backed up your iPod Touch, you can choose to restore the device to the last back up or any saved backup. If you have never backed up your iPod Touch, this process will restore your iPod Touch's factory settings. Wait while iTunes syncs with your iPod Touch and restores the device. iTunes will prompt you when this process is complete.

IPod will be disabled when it is locked with passcode and you entered too many times' wrong passcode attempting to unlock it. However, the next times you come across this problem, you should not enter too many times' wrong passcode but use proper tricks to get rid of it.
Both DFU mode and recovery are good choice to fore reset your iPod.
As to recovery mode, perfect tool ReiBoot is recommended here to enter and exit iOS recovery mode. It is totally free, have a try! Tenorshare ReiBoot

Well once an ipod is disabled the only things you can do are either plug it in to the original computer it was first connected with, or you can hard reboot it by holding both the screen lock and home buttons for 30 seconds and then plugging it in to any computer and you will have to restore it and re-sync everything. Hope this helps :D

If you enter the wrong passcode repeatedly on an iPod Touch, it will display a message that says "iPod is disabled." At first, the iPod will only be disabled for a minute, but if you continue to enter the wrong passcode, it will become disabled for longer periods of time, and finally, you will need to connect it to the computer with which you last synced it. From here, you will need to restore the iPod Touch to factory settings.

Open iTunes. Click "iTunes" in the upper-left corner, then select "Check for Updates" to ensure you have the latest version. Connect your iPod Touch to your computer with the USB 2.0 docking cable. Click your iPod's name under "Devices" on the left-hand side of the iTunes browser. Click the "Summary" tab. Click "Restore." Follow the prompts in the dialog box that appears to finish the restore. Your iPod will return to factory settings. Choose to set up the iPod as a new iPod or from a backup in the screen that appears when the restore is complete.

In order to enable your disabled iPod Touch, you'll have to completely reset it. Turn off the iPod Touch and when it turns back on the first thing to appear will be an Apple logo. Connect the iPod Touch to the computer it is paired with when this logo appears. Once it appears in iTunes, choose the "Restore" option and that will update the software and restore the iPod Touch.

Two reasons this is disabled for so long.

1. You have entered the incorrect 'power on' password many, many times.

or

2. You have jailbroken (jailbreak) your iPod Touch and one of the apps you have installed has caused the problem. Possibly a malicious app.

Two ways to fix it. Either wait 4317939 minutes or restore it using iTunes.

The first link below gives details of why a non-jailbroken iPod Touch is disabled.

Second link gives instructions on how to restore your iPod Touch using iTunes.

Try turning off your ipod, holding the home button, and plugging it in, while still holding the home button, until a picture of the ipod cable appears pointing to the itunes symbol. this will reset you ipod, and you don't need the passcode to make it usable again.

SOURCE: why is my iPod touch disabled for 5009752 minutes

If neither method works, you will need to contact Apple Customer Support.

you will have to restore your ipod to factory default settings in itunes.
or you can jailbreak the ipod with software like quickpwn.

Good Luck

SOURCE: ipod touch disabled

If you repeatedly enter the wrong passcode, iPhone or iPod touch will be disabled for longer intervals, before you can try again. After too many unsuccessful attempts, you won't be able to try again until you connect to the computer you normally sync with. Note that starting with iPhone 2.1 software, there is a setting to cause the device to erase itself after 10 consecutive incorrect password attempts. This setting is off by default. It can be turned on by tapping Settings > General > Passcode Lock after you enter a correct passcode.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device on the computer that was used to originally sync the iPhone or iPod touch so that you can reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced to the iPhone or iPod touch, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode but your data will not be present.

How can I unlock a disabled ipod touch?
