I can't get rid of the stains in the crevices around the star-shaped burners of my Thermador professional cooktop. Tips?
To clean the stainless around the star burners try applying Easy-Off oven cleaner around the stars with a Q-tip (spray the cleaner onto the stainless surface first because it's very hard to control the spray output). The cleaner will make your stainless sparkle and the Q-tips allow you to get close enough while controlling the application. Scrub gently with the Q-tip and the stains will disappear within minutes. Wash thoroughly with a wet cloth. I've used this on my older model Thermador stainless cooktop for 5 years.
I used CLR with a cotton ball and it gets rid of some of the staining and lightens it - but still have some marks left but at least it lightens it and removes the larger marks off the stainless steel.

This is a bummer. I have only had this stove for 3 months and find it very hard to clean. There is a problem cleaning the stainless around the star burners. I asked Sur La Table if they had any advice and they had a scratch removal kit. The question is whether or not there is a finish on the cook top that would come off. I have e-mailed the manufacturer to ask them. I will post my results.
I purchased the Thermador star burner cooktop about 3 years ago. The cleaning has been a nightmare and even using a toothbrush I can't get rid of the burned on stains on the parts closest to the center of the star. I tried a mild abrasive--baking soda--and noticed scratching! Help!!! It is looking like I never clean it.

This may have been erased. I need help cleaning my thermador star cooktop. I've had it 3 years and there is a lot of burned on stain on the stainless that I am afraid to clean for fear of scratching it.
Do you think the Easy-Off solution will work with a black cooktop. Yes I have the same cleaning nightmare as the stainless owners.
I have the same problem cleaning my Thermador cooktop around the star burners. Other than the stains, thw stove looks great. I wish I could remove what looks like the "burn" marks near the stars.
It is annoying and it is difficult to clean. Try to clean it while the cooktop is still hot. It's a little easier to take the stains out.
Personally I am not concerned about minuscule scratches. I use my stove heavily and found a solution on line. I can't take credit for it but it works! Mix a paste of baking soda and water with a few drop of dish detergent. Smear it all around the star burners. Light the burner and leave on high for 10 - 20 seconds or so. Let sit for half hour, then get an old toothbrush and a dish of water, dip the brush in water and reset the paste and scrub with the toothbrush. Most will come off that way. Any stubborn specks can be scratched of gently with the end of a knife. A good way to get into the crevises is with a scotchbrite worked with the handle of a wooden spoon. Twist, rotate and pivot the spoon to reach the corners. There will be some minor scratching but I feel that is better than the haze and buildup. After all it's a stove that gets used a lot. It's not going to look like it did in the showroom.
