I have an HP Officejet J4580 all in one, and I can't get it to scan to my laptop. There are no actual instructions to guide a scan. I tried to find a manual online and can't seem to find a site.I have a cable connected from printer to laptop.

Reinstall the printer/scanner software, and try again. There has probably been an update that made it failure. It could also be the firewall blocking the scanning function, you should check that too.

Make sure the full feature software package of the printer is installed.

Press the Scan button on then press scan button on the printer to scan, or you can also scan via HP software.

If you are not getting scan options, make sure you have installed the scanning software along with your drivers.
Check in Control Panel / Scanners and Cameras and try to scan from there.

Try reinstalling the software and make sure you follow the directions, because usually you have to install the software first before plugging the printer into the computer

Uninstall everything that has to do with your old HP printer, drivers, photo processing, etc. Reinstall software with J4580 printer. That should open HP Digital Imaging Monitor where you can set scanning options. Plug printer into the back opf your computer. Plug power supply directly into the wall socket.
