The dehumidifier isn't taking the moisture out of the air.

It runs but no moisture is coming out. I don't want to buy a new one, as this one is only 2 years old. How do I fix this?

Is the compressor in the unit hot to the touch,or are the coils freezing and thawing when it runs<if so you probably need to add some R-134a refrigerant, these type of units are notorious for losing all or part of their refrigerant charge, but unless you have the equipment to remove old refrigerant and vacuum the system down and recharge it it can get costly

My dehumidifier runs but takes no moisture out of the air

wow I get this question A lot ... things to ck first
1- control setting = less than room measurement for humidity , if your unit does not tell you rooms rh% consider buying a external %rh meter that you can place elsewhere in room there not that expensive to buy
2 unit working properly ? look for bucket full lights (it doesn't allways mean bucket is full) fault light or codes ? filters clean and new looking ?
3 if unit sounds if its running did you know that most dehumidifiers nowdays have two fans in them , could be you hear one running and not the other , this will prevent the unit from working correctly and some units don't let you know theres a fault with it (poorly designed my opinion ) , use a flashlight give it a good lookover you'd be surprised what you can find with one of those

The unit just stopped extracting any moisture from the air. The fan runs and the compressor sounds like it turns on. I use the bucket to capture the moisture so do not have the pump on for the hose.

If the unit isnt extracting moisture in the air you have one of two problems a leak in the refrigeration system or the compressor is locked up. In my experience its probably a leak in the refrigeration system because they make the dehumidifiers very cheap and the coils are paper thin. Delonghi has a lot of issues with there dehumidifiers and any other appliance they make. Check to see if the compressor is running if it is then you have no freon in the system. You can access the compressor by the back panel and you will know if it is running. If it is a refrigeration leak buy a new unit it will be a whole lot cheaper and less stressful,.

Machine runs, but no water is coming out into the bucket

There are several reasons this may be happening. The 2 primary reasons are the humidity extraction level is set to high. Lower it to 35% . The lower the setting, the more moisture/humidity is extracted from the air. The higher the setting, the less if any moisture/humidity will be extracted from the air.
On most humidifiers the fan runs almost constantly while in operation. The idea is to continually move the air around and when the unit senses a rise in humidity, above what you have it set on, the compressor will turn ON to extract that humidity.

The 2nd thing that causes the problem is a dirty of clogged intake air filter. Which is easily solved by removing and cleaning the filter. Which should be done at least every 2 weeks, while the dehumidifier is in operation.

I said there were 2 reasons. Actually, there is a 3rd. Not enough clear air space all around the dehumidifier. A minimum of 12" should be maintained during operation.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Start up instruction for dehumidifier

A dehumidifier does not need water in the tank.It takes humidity out of the air and the moisture goes into the bucket. A humidifier has to have water in the tank.Note ,a humidifier puts moisture in the air, and a dehumidifier takes the moisture takes moisture out of the air.

No moisture

check to see if the coils in the back are cold. if they are not, you either have no freon or the vent in the front is blocked and the condenser coils have no air flow to cool down. if they are, there might not be sufficient air flow across the evaporator coils or the air is already dry.

also, if the bucket switch isn't activated (due to the bucket not being in all the way), the fans will come on, but not the compressor.

Dehumidifier

After reading comments and complaints from other frustrated Maytag owners, I just went out and bought a new LG EnergyStar dehumidifier. I'm taping the receipt inside a plastic bag, along with the user manual, to the side of the machine. Hope this one works for a LONG time! Ronnisue
