Panasonic cordless phone KX-TG5766C

KX-TGA402C is the included handset for a Panasonic cordless phone system like the KX-TG4011C. You should be able to adjust the ringer volume from the Initial Settings menu. With the phone system in standby, press Menu on one handset. Use the Up/Down arrows to locate the Initial Settings. Press OK. Then select Ringer settings and press OK. Select Ringer Volume and press OK. Use the Up/Down arrows to set the desired Ringer volume and press OK to save. Press Exit to leave the menu system. Alternatively, you can adjust the ringer volume by pressing the Volume Up/Down buttons while the phone is ringing.

If the above steps aren't working, check that your handset and phone base are properly paired (registered handset). Also check that the base has power and connected to a working phone line. Also make sure that the handset is fully charged.

have you tried registering your handset to the base?

cordless phone gets hot. what to do

1st check that the charger is plugged and energized. It should light up when dropping a hanset into the craddle.
2nd Check that the batteries are connected properly inside the handset and that they have the full voltage. Try 1st step again

Press and hold "Clear" until it beeps. It will clear the invalid voice mail msg.

The shock you mention would suggest a failure of a component/c circuit on the board, or that there is something inside the phone shorting a circuit to the case. If you can remove battery cover, battery, SIM card (if it has one?), and then open the phone to take a look inside to see if there is any obvious physical damage. That's really all I can think of right now.
