ELNA Sew Fun Instruction Manual

The feed dogs on your machine do not drop. Instead, the machine has a darning plate that covers the feed dogs (see the accessories listed in the manual). If the darning plate is installed properly, it should prevent the feed dogs from contacting the fabric.

Make sure the stitch length dial is set @ 2 or higher. This will insure the fabric will move as the machine stitches.

SOURCE: can't find replacement needles for Elna 1500

Check with a local sewing machine store and ask if they carry needles for industrial sewing machines.

These have a round shaft and may be what is needed.

SOURCE: needle stays stuck whilst motor runs. Elna sewing machine

Its a lovely swiss made machine, this is an electronic motor so the needle pressure should remain constant no matter what speed you sew at. The needle staying down and the squealing sounds more like drive issues inside or possibly gunk buildup.

If it was my machine, I would take it to a qualified Elna technician and ask for him to look at it. These machines are small and well made so well worth spending the money to give it a service and get it back to 1000% IMHO.

SOURCE: on my elna 6004, why is my ziz zag stitch loose

Possible causes:
top tension dial set too low
top tension dial not working at all
top thread not seated into top tension discs
top thread hasn't been threaded up correctly, missing out the tension discs or take up lever

Most likely your top tension device is either set too low, or gunked up and not working right or has actually failed. Can you access the tension discs? If so, turn dial to zero and 'floss' between the discs with the selvage edge of a clean piece of waste cotton fabric and see if any black stuff comes out. If so, continue until it comes out clean. Turn back to 5 or the marked normal setting.

Now thread up again from top spool down to tension, through take up lever, then down to the eyelet just above the needle. Lower the pressure foot to engage tension then pull on the thread downwards. Is it hard to pull? If not, then the tension dial is faulty and you'll need to get the machine serviced.

If this feels firm and hard to pull, then take a look at the lower thread tension but this shouldn't normally need any altering (unless you've adjusted it previously for some reason and not reset it to normal setting). Check thread is fully into the tension spring, bobbin is in the right way and bobbin case is in fully in the correct position.

If you look at the zig zag stitiching you've done, can you identify if the loose thread is the top one? If you use two different coloured threads for troubleshooting, this often makes it a bit easier to see what's happening, just make sure they are the same weight and brand of thread if you do this.

I hope this helps you to identify the problem and fix it. But if you suspect that the top thread tension device is just not tensioning the thread even if you turn the dial right up to 7, then you'll need to get the machine serviced as the dial could well be faulting.

SOURCE: I have an Elna Lotus sewing machine. The needle

Most frequently the needle is just in backwards or threaded from wrong side, or using the wrong needle- check it over.... The presser foot must be released to press on fabric else the tension adjuster will be set to zero tension and could cause issue. Expect simple stuff else timing was knocked out of adjustment (from striking something, etc)
Take two adjustments and call me in the morning... for real, get back to me if it isnt anything basic I will try to describe timing procedure

Can you raise feed dogs on elna su

It may depend on your particular model, but the Elna SP manual indicates there is a darning and button plate which means the feed dogs do not raise or lower.

I have an Elna 3210 and my feed dog won't raise anymore. How do I fix this?

When you drop the feed dogs they drop instantly. When you raise them it takes 1-2 stitches for them to com back up. Move the switch on the back to the up position and sew a couple of stitches.

The Carina came with a metal plate that you clip over the feed dogs onto the metal plate (rotary hook cover), they don't have the feed dog drop feature.

How do I raise the feed dog in my Elna 5000, a machine I recently inherited.

I have a 7000 manual and from memory the 7000 was released a year after the 5000 and very similar. Look at top middle image below, for feed dog release at back of the sewing free arm.
tally_girl_19.jpg At the back of the sewing free arm (remove the accessories tray) is a slide to lower the feed dogs, there is a little stub that you need to push to release it. Manual says "Drop the feed by pushing the slide (a), which is at the rear of the elevated sewing surface, to the left. To raise the feed dog again, press down the stud (b) and the feed dog will rise when you start sewing." You might need to wind the flywheel towards you half a turn to visually check they have come up.
