Moat likely it is because your power supply is defective and it is not producing tv sufficient voltage to power the backlight. I would replace the power supply.
Sounds like the backlight or backlight inverter is out on your TV.

You more likely to need to backlight inverter boards, thpower supply should have 24vdc for the backlight inverter board, the 24vdc power supply get the trun on command from the controller board, that is what should have been checked first. So look for 24v or measure it directly on the inverter board connector pin.
