Bought a new lamp unit and put it in and picture looks great right away, but as tv stays on there becomes flashes of lights in the picture. also picture quality gets worse and coloring is strange in certain spots on the screen. Worsens the longer the tv is on. Could this be a bad lamp unit or is something else going?

Bought my hitachi 50vs69a tv 3 years ago. put new bulb in six months ago after original shattered. New bulb is not working now. TV comes on and stays on a few seconds then power, lamp and temp light start...

Take the lamp out and examine it. Are there any blackened markes that look like arcing marks? If there are then the lamp may be faulty and that could be caused by the ballast but in my experience of working with Sany and Philips lamps, the ballast units generally fail without causing lamp problems.
I should go for a new lamp.
Hope that helps.

Well my mom was watching tv and it just shut off so then my mom turned it back on thinking she might have hit the power button accidentally. But when she turns it on it started blinking the green light for...

The flashing light red power light should only stay while the fan cool down for about 1 minute after a power off (remember to always wait before unplugging the TV so the lamp can cool down with the fan). Does that flashing start right away after plugging back the TV after an hour of letting it without AC power.

The red light should flash no longer than 10 sec. This prepare the light to be turned on. If all is OK the green should stay (no longer flashing) and the sound and picture come on.

As for the lamp flashing, i bet it's only 1 time each 5 sec? Or do it group many rapid flash each 5 sec?

Things that can be wrong:
-the fan lamp

-the lamp is not proprely inserted (wait an hour before manipulating it to be sure it cooled down, and use glove to not put body oil on it).

-Lamps is defective and is not operating properly so you can't get to the usual on screen message that recommend to change the lamp.

Trying to turn on tv and no picture. bought new

Rulds2008 is probably right. I had the same problem, but have no TV repair shop near me. So since I have experience fixing computers, I decided to repair the TV myself. I initially repaired the Lamp, but the TV still flashed all three lights. Called Samsung and they told me that I might need to replace the ballast, but it would be best to bring it to a repair shop. The repair shop offered to come out and look at it for $150 or bring it in for $120, even though they were about 30 mins away. Ordered both parts on www.Samsungparts.com and got them in three days. Still had the three flashing lights. Took apart the entire TV (googled it on youtube) and vacuumed and dusted the TV and took apart the color wheel (about 20-30 mins). It was completed busted. Found out that if the color wheel is broken, it will not send a signal to the ballast to tell it to start up and power the lamp. So if you have replaced the lamp and/ or the ballast and it does not light up, it is more than likely that it is your color wheel (buy it on ebay or amazon, got it in three days versus a 3-4 week back order on company sites). Also, make sure the power switch on back is being pushed upwards and not downwards or the TV also will not start. Total parts cost me ($400) versus having someone else fix it and charge me double with labor and parts. TV is better than ever. Hope this helps.

Green light flashing & no picture on Toshiba 40pw13p

There is problem with the lamp. It might need to be replaced. The lamp unit is on the bottom-left side of your TV. Loosen thumb screw (by hand) to take the the lamp unit door. Using a screwdriver, loosen two screws of the lamp unit and carefully pull the lamp unit out.
Put a new lamp in reverse order.
