I've tried purging the gas line, holding the knob for over 3 minutes....full tank of propane...still won't light.
I tried to light the pilot manually. it lit, but then would go out when i turned up the gas to light the heater....

All Pro patio heater modle SPC54PHW, PHB, PHT, PHS. Pilot will not light and burner will not light.I installed a new regulatoe, propane tank is full. Took the gas pipes apart from bottom to top and no...

If your propane tank has an OPD valve.. in other words if when the tank is disconnected and you open the tank valve and no gas escapes..it's an OPD valve..these are pretty much standard especially on the exchangeable tanks.

The problem sometimes is at the connection hose..it too of course must be an OPD connector to depress the internal ring on the tank valve before any gas will come out.

Chances are the knurled knob is either cross threading or is cracked..and won't snug up enough to depress that internal ring on the tank valve. Or you have miss matched components.. unlikely if you bought genuine replacement parts.

The All Pro Heater you have requires a specific part (fitting) to be added when using a universal regulator (Part number 6122) which is a 3/8 connector male.

This of course is assuming you hear no gas hissing.. cannot light it manually..

Sounds simple..but I have seen this problem on outdoor BB'Q's many times.. cracked knob on the connector hose and a few times simply backing it off and putting it back on.. tight enough to depress that ring..

Best of luck!

sounds like the regulator is vapor locked. turn everything off, tank, any switches on unit itself, any valves.everything. now disconnect the gas tank. let sit in the sun for a bit, so we cant get you going quicker. start at to tank, reconnect that. now follow the manufactures specs for operation.

I have a 1993 fleetwood bounder i have had it for two months. i just got around to the propane appliances but there is no propane flowing to the stove or the furnace. the tank is turned all the way on but...

Ok, Lets start at the beginning. First make sure there is propane in the tanks! Gas can leak rom these tanks sometimes at a very small rate and over time they can go empty if there is a loose fitting somewhere. When you turn on the stove is there any air or hissing sounds coming from the burners? Air can get in the lines and when you turn the gas on, you get nothing but air for several seconds till the air bleeds out then you get the gas. Hold a lit match next to the burner and watch to see if there is any movement to the flame on the match, movement would let you know if there is any air coming from the burner, hold it there for a few seconds and see if any gas comes thru and this will then lite the burner. I always have to turn my stove on for a while to get gas thru the lines so the appliances work after the tanks have been filled or after it sits for a while. Once you get gas thru to the stove you can try your heater, this may also take sewveral tries till all the air is purged from the lines so don't get frustrated, sometimes this can take a while! Then the next thing is the water heater, the gas valve on these has a selection for pilot lite, turn the red knob so thet the cut out in the knob lines up with the gas valve and you have to push and hold this down for a minut or longer to get gas to the burner. Once the burner lights hold the pilot knob down for another minute to make sure all the air is out of the system. Once these are done you should be good to go till next time your tank runs dry and has to be filled. If you determine there is gas in the tank but it is not flowing to the appliances, double check all the shut off valves. The tank should have a diagram on the valve to let you know which way it turns for on and off. Do you have a built in tank on this model? If you have the two removable tank set up, make sure the auto switching valve is set correctly and you have it on to the tank that is full. If you still aren't getting gas, try calling an RV dealer and ask them if there is another valve somewhere that might need to be turned on. There migt be a shut off in the line somewhere, but this is not common.

Burner on Charmglow patio heater will not stay on.

believe it or not, the propane tank may be too full. The vapor space is taken up and you have very little vapor. Run some warm water over the tank. The garden hose may be enough but if you get no frost line the water will need to be warmer. The warm water causes the liquid fuel to turn into vapor. Do not use boiling hot water. Another thing is oening the valve. Most propane tanks have safety valves. If the gas escapes faster than a normal rate, the valve closes. Open the valve slowlyand lt it burn for about 10 minutes before opening the valve further. It will get better as the fuel is used up and the vapor space in the tank increases. In real cold climates a heater blanket, sleeve is used tho keep the bottle warm. The vapor also creates the the needed pressure to move the gas through the system to the burners. Good Luck-Ned_

Kirkland outdoor heater will not stay lit

The thermocouple is bad. That is the part right next to the pilot light that sense's the flame and hold the gas valve open to the pilot. Take the old thermocouple off and go to hard ware store and get a 18" one of what ever length you need and replace. 5 dollar part.

Patio heater

There must be a blockage in the hose and regulator or your large tank may be checking and not allowing the unit to stay lit. Remove the large bottle. Let the gas line equalize for about 30 seconds and then reattach the bottle. Very slowly, open the knob on the large tank and I mean very slowly. Did I say open it slowly. The new OPD propane tanks often have a very touchie excess control valve that won't allow enough gas through if opened too rapidly. Now tray and light the heater. If you still experience the same, get a technician involved so they can inspect the gas pressure.

Patio heater won't stay lit

I had this same problem - here's how I fixed it...

First: Never modify the safety features of your heater as has been suggested elsewhere on this forum. Modification of these features may allow the heater to work, but greatly compromises the safety of anyone near the heater.

The problem with the heater shutting off is most likely due to not enough gas flowing through the pilot orifice (this orifice is almost as small as the diameter of a human hair). When this happens, the pilot flame does not burn vigorously enough to activate the thermocouple. Hence, the thermocouple shuts off the gas and the burner goes out - usually you'll hear one "click" when this happens.

This is a maintence thing - meaning you may have to do this as a seasonal activity.

Here we go....
(1) Shut off the gas at the tank - or remove the tank entirely.
(2) Remove the screws that hold the burner shield and top shroud from the unit - set it aside.
(3) Remove the control knob - it just pulls straight off.
(4) Remove the panel immediately behind the knob you just took off. This will expose the gas valve assembly.
(5) Remove the cover that encloses the bottom of the pilot light/igniter (assembly). This will expose the bottom of the pilot assembly.
(6) Remove the screw holding the pilot assembly - there is a small hex nut on top, but under the burner that you'll have to hold to prevent it from turning. This will free the pilot assembly allowing you to gently pull it out of the pilot assembly housing. DON"T pull hard or you may break the gas line or thermocouple.
(7) Remove the hex nut that attaches the gas line to the pilot assembly and gently pull the gas line out. At this point, to ensure you have gas flowing through the pilot gas line, you may want to re-attach the gas tank, turn it on, gently move the gas line as far away from the spark ignitor as possible, temporarily replace the control knob, and turn the knob to the "Pilot" position & push it in. DO NOT DO THIS ANYWHERE NEAR AN OPEN FLAME OR A LIGHTED CIGARETTE! You should be able to hear a hissing sound as the gas flows. If you do not hear it, the problem may be with your gas valve, and if that's the case, I'm sorry this procedure likely won't solve the problem.
(8) Remove the pilot light tube (orifice) from the mounting bracket. There's a hex nut on the back side that holds it in. Be careful not to damage the hex nut or the threads. You'll need a pair of pliers (to hold the bracket) and an adjustable wrench for the hex nut. Make note of the orientation of the pilot burner diverter so you can put it back together the same way it came apart.
(9) Using a blast of compressed air, blow air through the pilot orifice. You should be able to see just a very (and I mean very) small pin-point of light through the pilot burner. If not, use a single strand of very fine wire - like one strand from a 18 gauge braided electrical wire - and run it through the pilot orifice. Carbon build-up can clog this orifice - which can prevent the pilot from burning vigorously enough to heat up the thermocouple. Cleaning it out periodically will likely solve the problem.

Put everything back together in reverse order as noted above - making sure your gas fittings are tight and don't leak. Once it's all back together, light the pilot flame as normal and once the thermocouple heats up, the heater should work like a charm.
