My laptop running window 7 64 bit connects to linksys wrt160N but internet connection is not available? Connecting via wire to the same router works fine. While the internet works fine on the other machines connected wired or wireless to the same router work. None of these machines have Windows 7.

Check the IP address on the Vista wireless network connection. Make sure that there is not static IP address on the wireless connection. That could be one of the reason.

I can not make a wireless connection from my laptop. The icon shows network available and my other hardwired computer is ok. I have disable my firewalls but still no connection.

Since you have not given what version of windows you are using, i am giving a generic step to test where the issue is. Please connect this computer directly to the router or the DSL/Cable modem you have and check if it is working fine with internet. If it is working then the issue is not with your firewall or setting. If it is not working even by directly connecting with a wire, then the issue could be with a firewall

If the wireless router is connected to the PC

You are using WRT160N router. This router has issues with the firmware.
Try to upgrade the firmware of the router. Firmware is the software of the router.
Download the latest firmware of the router. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the firmware of the router.
Open the set up page of the router and upgrade the firmware of the router. Once you upgrade the firmware of the router, reset the router.
On the router you will find a small reset button, hold it down for 30 seconds. release it. wait for 1 minute. Now unplug the power to the router and plug it back in.
Now you will need to reconfigure the router according to the Internet service provider.

Linksys wrt160n will not broadcast the internet wireless or ethernet it will however broadcast a connection to the router not the internet. I have tried to re-set it, power down, nothing works. I have not...

Your Linksys WRT160N is a router that can be accessed via CAT-5 cables and wirelessly. You must configure the router though, for wireless use. If this is not configured or not configured correctly, then you may have problems using it wirelessly. Laptop computers usually use the 802.11g mode, not the 802.11n, at 54MB or with the right NIC in a desktop you can get 108MB. If it was working then quit without your doing anything, you may have to replace the router, but I doubt it.

Follow these steps one by one and check:

1. Disconnect the Router from the Computer and connect it again.

2. Reboot/Restart the Router by turning it OFF and ON after one minute.

3. Check the connecting wire is properly connected.

4. Open the command prompt and ping 192.168.1.1

5. Try changing the connecting Wire.

6. Try to login using different Computer.

7. Reset the Router by pressing the reset button and configure it again.

NOTE: Always try to login to a Router using a Wired connection not using a Wireless connection.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although cable to desktop connects to internet, my router from desktop to laptop via router won't connect.

Desk top to internet is OK.
How about Destop through Router connection to Internet OK?
Assuming you want to connect wireless from Lap top to Network, need to configure correctly for wireless in Router.
If you connect Lap top to router by wire and it didn't work that mean your router is bad.
