How do change the chuck on my 1199vsr drill
When you buy a replacement chuck it will have detailed instructions- at least Jacob's brand chucks do. Basically there is a retaining screw inside the chuck that needs to come out first- it may be left-hand threads . Then you put the short end of a 1/4" or larger allen wrench in the chuck and close it tightly. Set the drill on a bench with the chuck off of the bench and strike the allen wrench with a mallet in a counterclockwise direction. Do this several times, then you'll be able to spin the chuck off by hand. Reverse the process to install the new chuck.
On this drill remove the Auxiliary Handle from the drill, insert the largest allen wrench you can fit into the end of the drill (short end of allen wrench goes into the drill) tighten it with the chuck key, now with the Auxiliary Handle removed you will find a hole in the side of the casing (approx 1/4" dia), insert a punch that is the size of hole while keeping slight pressure on the punch rotate the drill motor by turning the chuck by hand till you feel it locking the drill motor in place, now clamp the whole drill into a bench vise or something secure and tap on allen wrench (the long end) with a hammer till it comes loose, remember righty tighty lefty loosey :-) This worked for me !! Good luck !!
