Apple PowerBook G4 not coming out of sleep mode

When my Apple Powerbook G4 has been in sleep mode for a long time- more than an hour, it will not respond or "wake up". I have been taking the battery out, letting the computer completely die, and putting the battery back in in order to get it to come on. Is this hard drive- related? A bad connection? I replaced the battery in June of 2009, had the laptop since May 2005.

MacBook won't recognize my Lacie Rugged Hard Disk. Disk utility will see it but won't verify it nor will it repair it. says it needs to be reformatted yet it won't even let me initialize it. it is brand...

Is your MacBook as fast as the Lacie Rugged Hard Disk is?

Because solid state drive wasn't available on MacBook Pro at the initial time when it launched. Hard drives on all current Apple laptops are equipped with Sudden Motion Sensor technology. In fact, the Apple laptops that came with Sudden Motion Sensor are: All Intel-based Apple portables such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, PowerBook G4 computers starting with PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz), and iBook G4 computers starting with iBook G4 (Mid 2005) have Sudden Motion Sensor technology. You MacBook may not have come with that technology that could be the reason you are unable to connect it.

Sorry mate... too many limitations on

Another waterlogged 12" PowerBook story

Sounds like you have done all you can. The hard drive should be ok and still work in an external case so you can transfer the data to a new machine. Good luck!

PowerBook g4 won't wake from sleep, won't shut off (from sleep mode). Please help!

Found this, it may help you solve your issue. Power issues on Mac G4 The PMU is a microcontroller chip that controls power functions for the computer. The PMU is a computer within a computer, as it has its own memory, software, firmware, input/output, a CPU, and more. Its function is to:
§ Tell the computer to turn on, turn off, sleep, wake, idle, etc.
§ Manage system resets from various commands.
§ Maintain parameter RAM (PRAM).
§ Manage the real-time clock.
Over time, the settings in the Power Manager may become unusable, which can result in operational anomalies with the computer. Examples include not turning on, not waking from sleep, or not seeing devices plugged into the USB and FireWire ports, among others.
Resetting the PMU is not intended for resolution of a stall or situation in which the computer is unresponsive. A PMU reset should not be necessary except as a last resort in cases where a hardware failure of the power management system is suspected. Performing a PMU reset returns the computer hardware, including NVRAM, to default settings and forces the computer to shut down.

Powerbook g4 going to white screen only!!

Do you have any external harddrive attached to it? If so, remove it before restarting. Try to start it up in safe mode by holding the Shift button down at startup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455

THat indicated that there is s/thing wrong with the shutdown mechanism. Make sure the machine is hsut down before closing the lid. Let it rest a minute.
