I have a moen 96909 cartridge removed and try to put the new one that i brought at Lowes, but the model is 1222. Are they compatible? i want to know before i put it in
I spoke to Moen customer Service today. The 96909 is not the cartridge part number, it's the mold number for the plastic sleeve that's part of that assembly. Odd. If you have shower dial that rotates to turn the water on and off (doesn't pull out), they indicate 1222 is the replacement.I spoke to Moen customer Service today. It sounds like the 1222 cartridge is not compatible with your faucet. You may need to replace the cartridge with the correct one for your faucet. If you are unsure of the correct cartridge, you can contact Moen directly for assistance.
The Moen 1222 is the cartridge you want. The 1222 is the OEM number, and the cartridge carries a lifetime warranty. If you call moen at 1-800-buy-moen, they will likely send you a replacement cartridge free of charge. Some wholesale plumbing suppliers will also do it if you act like you know what you are talking about, and they don't have an aversion to "retail" customers.
It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with the installation of the Moen 1222 cartridge in your faucet. The Moen 1222 cartridge is designed to be a direct replacement for the Moen 96909 cartridge, so it should fit in the same way. If the 1222 cartridge is not going in far enough for you to reinstall the clip, there may be a problem with the cartridge or with the faucet itself.
Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
Make sure the cartridge is oriented correctly: The Moen 1222 cartridge has a specific orientation that it must be installed in to work properly. Make sure that the cartridge is oriented correctly and that the stem is facing the right direction.
Check for any obstructions: Make sure that there are no obstructions in the bore or in the faucet that could be preventing the cartridge from being fully seated.
Make sure the faucet is properly disassembled: If the faucet was not properly disassembled before installing the new cartridge, it may not be seated correctly. Make sure that all of the internal parts of the faucet have been removed before attempting to install the new cartridge.
If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to seek the assistance of a professional plumber. It is also possible that the Moen 1222 cartridge is defective, in which case you may need to return it for a replacement.
Moen makes a stem removal tool that angages the 2 ears on the outer portion of the stem. You can order from Moen: http://www.moen.com/moen/cartridge-removal-tool-for-1200-or-1225-or-1222-cartridges/_/R-COMMERCIAL%3A104421
