QuoraThere is a gear within an analog watch that is used to change the date at the appropriate time. The gear ... Watches: What is a fair price for a authentic 1970's vintage "McQueen" Rolex Explorer II? Why does the day start at midnight?
Your problem is caused by the fact that the watch is 12 hours out of step.
Wind your watch forward 12 hours, reset the date if you need to and you watch will then change around midnight.
(if you need to change the date more than one day, when it has past the change time, wind it back and then forward to step the date forward. You may have to experiment to see how far past the change point (in both directions).
mcdevito75 here The stem has 2 positions, we all know the 1 to pull the stem out and set the time, day, date. try this, first go thru the watches 24 hour cycle to get the month you need, now slip a fingernail just under the stem (crown) and gently lift to it"s first position, it may take a few times to get used to, when you have it turn the crown (stem) to change the date easily, change the date to 1 date before the date you want, now go thru the watches 24 hour cycle to get to the date you need. Now the watch is set and will change on time at around mid--nite.
mcdevito75 here, Most day / Date or just date watches with a stem (winder) even if they are quartz have a 2 position stem. Smply slip a fingernail under the crown and lift to it"s first position, this should allow you to change the date with haveing to go the 24 hours but remember the date cahnges at 12--1 Midnite, Best bet, change the date to the date before the date you want then go the 24 hours this way the date will change at midnite and not 12 noon.
mcdevito75 here, Your Bulova watch should have a 2 position crown (winder), carefully lift the crown to it"s first position, this should allow you to change the DAY, once done pull crown out to set the time, keep turning the hans till you get the right DATE (number) now set the correct time and your done.
The date may have a mechanical change at midnight(ish).
f this is the case, take the watch past midnight and then wind it back to (say) 11 and then forward again. Repeat this until the correct date is achieved.
If you watch is an electronic type then press the mode button until the date change function appears (it is likely to be abreviated "DC ? perhaps" and then use one of the other buttons to advance or ****** the date as required. Some experimenting may be required.
mcdevito75 here, The manufacturer recommends you don"t try to change the date between certain hours as this could hurt the date changeing mechanism inside the watch, I don"t think you did any harm (LUCKY) and the date changeing 45 minutes before mid nite is just about right. BUT! if the date change was aliitle closer to mid nite at 1 time you can try to reset the date, here"s how, your stem should have 2 positions to change the date without haveing to cycle the watch the 24 hours 60 times. Slip a finger nail just under the crown and gently, gently lift the crown to it:s first position, it may take a little practise but you"ll get it, once you do, trun the crown and you should see the DATE change, if so set the DATE to 1 DATE before the DATE you want, now pull the stem out and set the correct gate and time of day. Your watch is now reset and date will change on time, around nid nite.
