    Hi Keynan,
Yes the OS is XP Pro and Device manager is in order.
I have reformated the HDD and did a clean instal of windows, so the problem started.I do not know if i have to use an audio cable from the cd-dvd drive to the M/B. That is the only thing I have not tried yet.
The DVD Drives are both detected in BIOS.
    What can you offer?
    Thanks
    Chris

I would update the drivers for them and check your device manager to see if they are enabled.
Make sure the sonic software or whatever you use to play the files is installed.

Hi!
Few points to notice:

  1. What operating system are you using?
  2. Are the drives identified (i.e. can you see them in My Computer/Computer)? If not, download and run this patch (it's intended for Windows XP but might work on other versions of Windows as well)... Any changes?
  3. Open Device Manager. Do you see any yellow question marks or exclamation marks? What's listed in the DVD/CD-ROM Drives category?
Waiting for your reply...

Good luck,
Pelu.

First of all, it has nothing to do with the audio cable.
Second, have you tried the patch I sent you a link for??

Can you see the drives in My Computer or not?

    Pelu.

I advice you to remove one driver and look whether the other is working. Check both the drives this way. Once you find them working, you can get back to your old system, that is, how it is now. This is not based on any logic, but it may work as your problem may be that your newly upgraded system got confused with the two drivers.

This model of computer does not have a blu-ray drive unless you got a third party upgrade. In this case, you will need to track down special drivers, which can best be done by whomever sold you the drive.

Dvd recorder won't play disc

your recorder will normally give you 5 changes at different regions, and on the last region change that is the one that it stays on, although if you you have never changed the region go to> my computer>right click on your dvd drive>properties and on the hardware tab, your hard drive and dvd drive will show, highlight your dvd drive and click properties and click the dvd regions tab and look at the region to see wot its set at, if you still have 5 changes, it should be set at your region one, if there are no changes left you need to search and download a region free dvd programme to allow any region dvd to be played programme

I have acer aspire 4520.I have upgraded to windows xp sp2. The empowering technology does not work.It says " the specified file is not found".I cannot find the empowering technology software...

*If upgrading after initial purchase, one or more of the memory cards provided with the system may have to be replaced with optional larger memory cards in order to achieve the maximum capacity.
Storage 120GB* hard disk drive Integrated variable-speed Super-Multi drive (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM):

5-in-1 card reader for optional MultiMediaCard™, Secure Digital card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO™ or xD-Picture Card™

Surely to load XP is a DownGrade. As this notebook is dual core, I would run Vista 64 or better still Windows 7 64.
If you wish to persist with an old system, you require SP3 for XP.That may be available from a software store but is no longer supported by Windows.
Try http://www.notebook-driver.com/laptops-information/acer-aspire-4520-notebook-technical-specifications/ for drivers that you will require to have support from Acer.

Hope that clarifies your situation.

You can upgrade your hdd as big as they make in 2.5 inch format. Just make sure you get a drive with the same format as your old drive or it will not work. Hope this helps.

Internal Hard Disk Upgrade

Yes, there is. Match the type of drive (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA) you get with what you have. Make sure your Satellite sees the drive in the BIOS. For drives larger than 120 GB, recommend operating systems Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or higher) or Vista. Older OS's have a 137 GB limitation (they only see the first 137 GB of the hard drive despite its size).

Dics Drive Upgrade for Toshiba Satillate.

As far as i know thats impossible. Your optical diskdrive is made just for those speeds that you have on it. You cant change the manufacture settings and speed it upp, or make it to an dual layer disk.
Buy a new one whit the needs that u want and replace the old one. Its easy done and its not that expensive.

Good luck to you

Won't recognize blank dvd

Chek wtat is written on front panel
If it DVD-RW it can record only DVD-R blank, if it + so only +R
or DVD-RAM. If it is DVD +/- RW or RAM it can record any disk.
Also chek the speed for you DVD and disk you using.
If you dvd maximum speed for recording is for example 2.7, 4, 8 you should use only DVD with max speed 2.7, 4, 8 or 1-8, 1-16 etc. So they should be labeled the same as you DVD
Good Luck
