Keyboard Cursor Jumping

Hi,
Recently I started having some problems while typing on my Acer laptop....While I'm typing the cursor will sometimes jump back to an sentence above or between letters. I've done a search about this problem and mostly the answers I see are it's caused by accidently touching the touch pad. That's not the case here. I've had this laptop over a yr and the problem only started about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks,
Susan

I have a HP Presario dv4000 which I've had for 3 yrs. now and about 3 months ago I noticed that the cursor will move to a different place in my text. It could move to the beginning of a sentence, in between words. There is no pattern. I've researched the issue and solutions such as changing the touchpad sensitivity were given. I've since tried that but didnt' think that was the solutions since I haven't changed that since I purchased the laptop and it just recently started jumping. What else can it be? I even restored the laptop to a time prior to the issue and that didn't fix it.

I have been having the same problem for some time now with my Acer laptop and windows vista.
What worked for me was changing a Mouse setting in the Control Panel.
Go to Control Panel -> Mouse. Then go to the "Tapping" tab and make sure that the "Tap off when typing" box is Checked

Keyboard trouble and heat

The Cursor jumping can be resolved by going to the touchpad properties and enabling touchcheck (Palmcheck is some drivers) this will disable the touchpad while typing.

Ad far as dealing with heat, canned compressed air blowing dust out of the air intake/exhaust will normally help cooling

Keyboard problem- cursor keeps jumping around when I'm typing

You may be inadvertently touching the touch pad with the side of your hand or fingers as you type OR the touch pad itself is bad and needs replacement.

My letters and words will randomly go in different places

Have you checked the moue and keyboard settings see if there is something in the settings...one computer I would recommend to check the keyboard wiring but with two that would be quite a coincidence. If the mouse is chasing the cursor then its got to be a software issue..also run spyware software on both. Spyware captures keystrokes so could be affecting the keyboard pointer settings.

Jumping cursor when typing

Since you have a logitech mouse, lets just disable the touchpad. You should be able to disable the touchpad via one of these methods:
  1. Look on the top row of keys. You should have one that looks like a little mouse. If you do, hold down the "fn" key in the bottom, and press the key with the mouse on it. That *should* disable the touchpad.
  2. Go to the control panel, and find the keyboard and mouse settings. Digging through the menus, you should find a touchpad. You can disable it through there.

Cursor jumps around

Try this software:

http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/downloads/list

Touch Freeze will disable the touchpad when you start typing. I have not used it, but give it a try.

Also, your touchpad could be wearing out or a driver reinstall could be in order. My wifes Toshiba had a bad touchpad and the cursor would jump all over the place. I disabled it and she now uses an external mouse. No problems anymore.
