Try another new dvd and it should be a dvd -r. havn't had good luck with dvd + r or dvd r/w when making recover disks.

never try to reuse a dvd or cd that has given you an error. toss it.

Bootmgr missing on hp pavilion slimline s5503w

This document pertains to HP and Compaq desktop PCs that came with Windows 7.The following error opens when attempting to start the PC:BOOTMGR is missingPress CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart the PCIf you recently installed an additional hard drive, turn off the computer and remove the drive before using the following steps:
  1. Open HP System Recovery:caution.pngCAUTION:Do not perform a system recovery! Stop at the first recovery screen.
    • Press the F11 key repeatedly while the computer is starting.
    • If you have a recovery disc, turn on the PC and insert the first recovery disc into the drive. Use the disc to enter the system recovery.
  2. Select Microsoft Startup Repair tool and wait for repair to find and fix errors. When finished, restart the computer; even if the startup repair tool finds errors but cannot fix them.
  3. If the error message persists, open the recovery manager screen as was done in step 1.
  4. At the recovery manager screen, press ALT + D.
  5. Enter the following text at the command prompt: bootrec /rebuildbcd
  6. If bootrec displays "Add installation to boot list?", press y .After bootrec completes successfully, the computer displays "The operation completed successfully".
  7. To close the command prompt, enter the following text: exit
  8. At the Recovery Manager screen, select Microsoft Startup Repair tool (again) and wait for startup repair to find and fix errors. When finished, restart the computer.
  9. The error should no longer open. If it does, perform a system recovery, making sure to backup important files.
If you removed a hard drive before using these steps, replace the drive. If the error occurs again, make sure the additional hard drive is not set as an active drive. Only the main bootable drive should be set as active.

Need to reset factory settings to wipe laptop clean but dont have a disc

hi
there is two ways to do it.

Laptop Recovery Instructions
If you cant boot into windows

1. Power on the machine
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the "Alt" key and press the "F10" key
simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click "Restore to Factory Default Settings"
4. Click "OK" to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive
and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press "OK" to reboot unit

If you can boot into windows

Click "START"
All Programs
Acer/ Packard Bell/ E-machine recovery
Select "Recovery management"
Click "Restore"
Click "Fully restore to factory default"
NB: This process takes about 15 to 20 min

You need an OS disc or the recovery disc to fix the bootmgr error. Fixing that error require accessing recovery console which came with the OS disc or recovery disc of your computer. The only solution is to get an OS disc or recovery disc.

You have formatted the hard drive (containing Boot Manager) using recovery disk 1.
That's why the error message.

Just insert disk 1 again.
Shut down the computer (press & hold the power button for a minute).
Restart.

Follow the instructions that come up.

If it doesn't help, reseat the hard drive. (open the back cover, take out hard drive, reconnect it)
Also you may go to BIOS (tap F1 while booting) and set the cd-drive as the first boot device.

Hope it helps.

Tried to burn recovery discs and I get error codes

If the computer is still under warranty, get the faulty CD/DVD-writer replaced, so that you can "burn" disks.

However, you seem to have "other" hardware problems. Hire a qualified computer-geek (Geek Squad or Dial A Geek) to trouble-shoot, if your computer is out-of-warranty.

Hi

Thank you for your query

From what you are describing the recovery disks are faulty, and as things stand you have no operating system.

The only thing you can do about it, is to contact Toshiba to obtain replacement discs

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank you again
