Have you looked at the settings on the sound controller of your PC? For instance I use Soundmax and it may be that you have switched of the playback of sound, or set it to low, on that if you use one, or whatever you use for control of sound sources.

Apple MacBookPro 2010 is in a white screen

If the start up sound plays and the hard drive sounds normal try connecting the computer to an external monitor. If the external monitor shows the desktop just fine then the cable connecting the laptop to its screen is probably going bad.

If the computer will not boot at all try zapping the PRAM by
  1. Pressing the power button and then command-option-p-r before the gray screen comes up.
  2. Hold those keys down until you hear the startup chime.
  3. Let go of the keys and let the Mac reboot.
If that doesn't work try booting from an install disk and run a repair utility.

Powers down shortly after boot

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.

• Please update me to let me know if this works.

Thanks.

No sound is heard with calls on Skype, I get video, and i hear sounds made by the program, but no sound from the recipient of the caller. I get sound when I video chat Mac to Mac, but not Mac to Windows,...

Ok, by the sound of it both yourself and whoever you're calling have not set up Skype quite right.
On your end, you need to:
  • Make sure you have a working microphone - try using Skype's built in 'Echo' feature (try calling 'echo123')
  • In Skype -> Preferences -> Audio, make sure that microphone is selected.
On their end, make sure they've done the same - they must have a working microphone, correctly setup with Skype in order to send you sound.
Hope that helped!

I have a lexicon omaga drive but when i hook it up its like i need a 64 bit driver

Don't know what OS you're running. Omega has published drivers for Vista and 7 64-bit versions. They say they don't support XP 64, but when I hooked my unit up to my computer and the hardware install wizard came up the OS found and installed Microsoft published general USB audio device drivers for all inputs, midi, and mac USB channels of the Omega, and automatically set it as my default device. I hooked headphones into the Omega unit and could hear system sounds. So far so good. Went to My Music and fired up an audio file. Windows Media Player started up and the song started playing but I couldn't hear anything. Opened the same file with Audacity, could see the VU meters bouncing, but still no sound in my headphones. Went in to the preferences of Audacity, and manually set the speaker default to the Omega mac USB device. Hit play again and voila! I had sound. Closed the file, started WMP manually, went in to options, and again set the speaker default to Omega mac USB. Opened the same audio file and this time it played just fine. The driver files Windows used for my card were
C:\\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\ksproxy.ax, C:\\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ks.sys, C:\\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ksthunk.sys,
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\portcls.sys,
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\stream.sys,
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\USBAUDIO.sys,
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\ksproxy.ax,
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\ksuser.dll,
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\wdmaud.drv,
all version 5.2.3790.1830
Hope this helps everybody else with this problem.

Sound Problem with MAC OS X 10.4.11

This sounds obvious, but the system volume could be down. Go to the System Preferences, and select "Sound". Make sure the output voumne is turned up, and the mute is not on.
If that doesn't work you could try "zapping the pram".
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound again. Continue this until you hear the startup sound four times.
  6. Release the keys.
