same thing...wont show any picture when recording or playback but records sounds. thats it..also plays other tapes with picture and sound

  • elfox33 May 27, 2008

Thanks for the response... will definetly try that. Have been thinking that perhaps it is something to do with the lense not opening?? Since it is only the picture that wont record. Is this a possibility? Does anyone know if that is common?

  • elfox33 May 28, 2008

No, when it is in camera mode, no image comes through - either while it is recording or when it is playing back a new recording. It will only show an image when playing back an old recording from before the fault occured. Any ideas if it is expensive to replace a defective CCD Imager?

Dear elfox33
Your camcorder has dirty/clogged video head problem. Please use Video Head Cleaning Cassette Video-8 type to clean it. Hope problem will be solved.

    Dear Elfox33,

Please let me know that can you see live picture in viewfinder in camera mode? If yes, then video head cleaning procedure will be ok. If no, camera has defective CCD Imager problem and this part will be replaced. In this case, please contact nearest Sony service shop.

Well, I have no idea about Sony repair policy in USA because I am not living in USA. In my region, it doesn't cost much, approx $15.00

New DCR-TRV260 won't play my old tapes

I have the same problem. I just bought a sony handyman and tried to play my old tapes and nothing, not even sound. But I just recorded something using an old tape and it records and I can play that back. I'm thinking maybe over time, somehow all the data on there got erased. Which is really a bummer.

Sony handy cam Hi 8 ccd trv308

Sony has a recall on some of these ccd imager problems. Contact Sony to see if your model applies, but it sounds like an imager problem on your pal format camcorder. Larry

Can I use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes in my DCR_TRV250E?If so would I be able to playback recorded tapes on the UK televisions?.

DCR-TRV250E is a PAL version camera of the Digital8 format.
Yes you can use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes. The camera will record a PAL digital picture on the tapes which means that you can play back the tapes in PAL and therefore you will be able to playback recorded tapes on UK televisions because they are also of the PAL format.

My camera does not show what i have taped

Regarding no picture in playback is problem mostly of dirty / clogged video head in Sony handy-cam and can be corrected by using good quality video head cleaning tape.
As far as memory stick picture concern, I think lost pictures (42)would be in other folder on memory stick.

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

Blue screen on playback on Sony DCR-HC40

You can see an image in a camcorder viewfinder any time the camera's actually on in record mode, whether or not the camcorder is actually recording. So that's no guarantee.

Assuming the obvious (you have the right kind of tapes, they're not in write-protect mode, you rewind before playing, etc). I recommend that you borrow a tape of the same kind from someone else and check it on playback in your camcorder. This should lead you know understand if you have a playback problem or a recording problem.

Hi8 playback problem

your guides have come loose , probably - the digital sound will be next to go because the bottom edge of your tapes are being folded - open the cassette tape lid by pressing the small pin near one hinge and gently lifting the door - if there are any creases ? get the guides aligned ! to protect your library ; ( if there are no creases , try a sony d8 cleaning tape - once ! before getting a repair quote ) ;
