is it listed under mycomputer? can you see any yellow mark for your dvd drive under device manager? (go to control panel, click system, hardware, device manager, click plus sign before optical drive) check if the drive will explore hwats on your disk on SAFE MODE, if it doesnt, replac dvd drive,if its does, delete upper and lower filter by following this steps : click start, click run, type regedit, the registry editor will come up, follow tihis path :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} --- on the right side you will see upper or lower filter, delete both of which one can found on screen. restart the computer. you might also want to update firmware of your dvd drive.
criddi, it is best if you uninstall and reinstall or update the drivers of your CD/DVD drive, you may also need to place the drive on another IDE port from the inside of your computer.
hope this helps, if you have other questions please let me know
