Lost Pin for Garmin Nuvi 360

So my brother went ahead at a police auction (where they sell off all the stuff that hasn't been claimed) and Bought a Garmin Nuvi 360. We have no clue what the pin is, and we obviously have no original receipt, so how can we unlock this thing? (I'm willing to take it apart)

Unfortunately without the receipt you won't be able to make this work. When a Garmin PIN is set the user is allowed to pick a location that they can go to in case they forget the PIN. If they turn the unit on while at that location the unit will not ask for the PIN. The only other way to reset the PIN is to sent it back to Garmin. If it was bought at a police auction they would have supplied you with some kind of a transaction record. I would call Garmin Support at 800-800-1020 M-T 8AM-6PM Fri 8AM-5PM Central time. Explain the situation to them and they might be willing to fix it for you. Normally if they are sent a GPS that doesn't come with a receipt they will contact the Police in the registered user's area. Good luck.

Every time the 205W is powered on, you must enter the PIN, or drive to your security location you set up when the PUN was first entered..

Ebay Buyers Beware When Purchasing Garmin GPS Products

For those of you considering purchasing a new/refurbished Garmin GPS product through eBay;

Here is some info taken directly from Garmin's website (FAQ section - search under ebay) See my comments at the end.

Question #1. Does the unit I purchased on EBAY have a warranty?

Answer:
Products that are purchased from online auctions such as EBAY are not covered by warranty. Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification and Garmin will not replace any missing components from any package purchased through an online auction.

Question #2. Does Garmin have any authorized dealers on eBay or any other online auction site?

Answer:
Garmin does not have any authorized dealers that sell new products directly on online auction sites. Any purchases made through online auction sites are on a "buyer beware" basis. A copy of the original sales receipt is required as the proof of purchase for warranty repairs. Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification and Garmin will not replace any missing components from any package purchased through an online auction.

There is always the possibility that products purchased through eBay or other online auction sites could be stolen merchandise. You assume this risk when you buy through these auction sites. If you buy a Garmin product through an online auction site and later send it to Garmin for service, if the product is determined by Garmin to be stolen merchandise upon receipt at Garmin's facility (through a serial number match), Garmin reserves the right to return the product to its rightful owner or send it to the investigating law enforcement authorities.

Question #3. I purchased a unit through an online auction and Garmin has just informed me that the unit is stolen. What can I do?

Answer:
If a unit is purchased through an online auction, such as eBay, and that unit is found in our stolen-units database, Garmin is not obligated to release any registration or unlock code information. Also, please be aware that Garmin can request that the stolen unit be returned to Garmin without compensation and report this information to law enforcement authorities.

If the product has already been returned to Garmin for service and is determined by Garmin to be stolen merchandise upon receipt at Garmin's facility (through a serial number match), Garmin reserves the right to return the product to its rightful owner or send it to the investigating law enforcement authorities.

** My Comments **

I purchased my Nuvi 350 on eBay through a so-called Garmin "Authorized Dealer". Three days later when my unit broke, I found out that Garmin would not honor the warranty and they told me that my refurbished unit was already registered to someone else. Garmin also told me that they had never heard of the "eBay dealer" that I had purchased the unit from (ebestdeals4u). This is how I got into fixing the Nuvi's on my own.

Now, I'm not saying that the sellers on eBay are going to rip you off. In my case, my Nuvi worked fine except that the power switch broke 3 days later.

As for stolen units: I'd be cautious of anyone selling a unit with just the GPS and no accessories or just the GPS and car adapter alone. Be more suspicious if they claim the unit is locked with a PIN and that they have forgotten it. If a seller has the original box and all of the accessories, it's less likely that it was stolen from a vehicle. However, ask them if the deal includes the yellow Garmin registration card. You'll need that to register your unit with Garmin and obtain future updates. It has specific information unique to each Nuvi. No two cards are alike.

However, just because you have the card, doesn't mean your unit hasn't already been registered to someone else. If thats the case, you're out of luck, unless the seller can give your the ID & password that it was registered with through Garmin.

You can be assured that if you purchaseed your unit through a well-known retail chain, your Nuvi WILL have a warranty recognized by Garmin. No, I don't work for a major retail chain. I am an Engineer in the Electronics field (not Garmin or any other GPS manufacturer).

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email me at ks3r at sharc dot net.

Good luck & safe travels,
- Jim (SHARCNET)

How to find a stolen garmin nuvi

There's little you can do besides reporting in stolen to the police and maybe checking out local pawn shops or scanning ebay & craigslist for used GPS devices offered for sale in your area.

There is little the police will do as they probably lack the manpower to search for these items - and doing it yourself can place you in harms way - depending on the character of the person selling the device. It is also possible, but probably not very likely, that the person selling it does not know it was stolen.

You should have proof of purchase - basically the box and serial number - and have police present when making the transaction if they are interested in assisting you with the GPS recovery process.

Most likely though, you will not find your GPS. The police will not really be interested in doing more than accepting a stolen property report that you fill out yourself. All you can really do is not leave valuables in sight or really even unattended in a vehicle. You should make use of Garmin's Theft Lock technology - which basically renders the GPS useless without knowing the unlock PIN. While this won't prevent theft (or get it back), you can get some satisfaction knowing that even though you can no longer use the GPS - the thief can't either.

Need to change pin number in garmin nuvi model 205 i bought it at a police auction and need to enter my own pin number

You will need to contact garmin to do this. Their website is www.garmin.com when you get to there web page look at the top right hand corner where it says My garmin. From there set up a new account once you do this then contact their technical support either by phone or by email. From there they can instruct you what you need to do to reset the pin number.

I hope this helps you out and if it does please give me a YES on the page you receive my response on. Thank you

I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 that I purchased from a police auction that requires a PIN to work. I don't have the correct paperwork for Garmin tech support to help.

Garmin will only unlock devices if you have proof of purchase.
Think you need to go back police auction and get correct paperwork.

How do you reset ur password on a garmin nuvi 200w? i just bought a used garmin nuvi 200w but i dont know the pin for it. so how do i change the pin if i dont know the original pin?

The only way you can register that gps is have the original owner call Garmin and have them release it from his account, otherwise you could not use it or get it registered..... all Garmin GPS are registered to unlock maps....and all have a SECURITY FEATURE in them in case of lost or stolen.

NUVI 200W Another PIN Unlock Question...

No, there is no way to reset the PIN with software. Your only options are the enter the correct PIN, take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered, or send the unit to Garmin.

Pin number

There are only three ways to unlock the GPS.

1) Get the PIN from whoever you bought it from.
2) Take the GPS to the location it was at when the PIN was set.
3) Send the unit to Garmin to have it reset. For return information: CLICK HERE

If you can't get the PIN from whoever sold it to you online, it is probably a stolen unit. You should contact your local police dept with a the serial number to see if it turns up in their database. If it is stolen, you may be eligible for a refund from the online auction house because you were defrauded. At the very least you should file a complaint with the auction house to prevent this sub-human from screwing other people the way he screwed you.
