WOULD SOFT WATER HAVE A BAD EFFECT ON THIS MODEL AS IT HAS RUSTY BITS

Hot water heaters are a collector of sediment. The proper care includes flushing out the collected debris through the low side drain faucet. The problem is the faucet is not designed correctly to carry out the needed task. If you are handy... turn off the water and gas or electricity to your water heater. Relieve the water pressure through the temperature/pressure relief valve on the side of the water heater tank. Once pressure is relieved close the valve. Determine if you have a 1/2 inch or a 3/4 inch diameter drain valve hole in the side of the tank where the drain valve is located. The drain valve can be removed with channel lock pliers, an 8 or 10 inch adjustable wrench, or a small 8 to 10 inch pipe wrench. Water will leak out the threaded hole while the valve is out. If everything is closed maybe 2 cups of water will leak out of the hot water tank as you check drain valve thread size. DO NOT take your time checking thread size. After you know the pipe thread size go to the hardware store ( Home Depot, Lowe's etc) purchase a short nipple (1 1/2 to 3 inch depending on available space) and a ball valve (brass) due to the water temperature. You will also need a brass adapter for pipe thread to garden hose thread (male both ends). This adapter goes into the ball valve to allow for the connection of a garden hose. Connect the pipe and valve together using the correct pipe thread sealant and install in place of the original plastic drain valve. Install pipe to hose adapter using thread sealant. With the ball valve in place turn the water back on. Gas or electricity back on. Connect a garden hose to the ball valve. Place the other end of the garden hose in a safe area as hot water and debris will be expelled through the hose. With water on, Gas or Electricity on and the relief valve closed actuate the ball valve to the full open position for approximately 3 seconds then close the valve. Repeat the open and close of the ball valve three times. Observe the debris that emptied out of the garden hose. You may be surprised at what you see. If the water runs clear, disconnect the garden hose the task is completed. You can wait until the following year to repeat the process. Your pipe and valve are now a part of the water heater, they may remain in place. Put the hose away.

I have the pentair 011523 whisperflo and our spool is going to overflow from all the rain we have been having. I know that there is a way to attach a hose flip a switch and drain some of the water to...

To drain the pool, you have to change the position of your "backwash" valve.
Shut off the pump.
See if there is a DRAIN position on the backwash valve.
You could probably use the BACKWASH position, too, only water will go through the filter and then out the normal backwash pipe.
Turn the pump on briefly to see which pipe water comes out. Shut the pump.
Put discharge hose on that pipe.
Turn pump on until pool is low enough.
Return backwash valve to filter position.

I just installed a Moen shower valve Model 82910cbn. The cold water supply is on. The shower works when the cold and hot water is going to the valve, but when I turn off the cold water supply going into...

Balance Spool Maintenance
The precise and instantaneous pressure control illustrated has been
achieved through the balancing spool, which has been manufactured to
exacting tolerances.
During construction or valve installation, foreign material such as solder
flux, pipe cuttings sand, dirt or wood is unavoidably introduced into the
water system. Occasionally, however, rare, these foreign materials can
cause the balancing spool to become stuck temporarily between the
rough-in and trim-out operations. If this happens, it will be apparent at
the trim-out test, in that the valve will deliver only a small trickle of water
or it will deliver only hot or cold water. If this occurs, proceed as follows:
1. Make sure that both the hot and cold water service lines are ON. Also,
make sure that both screwdriver stop-check valves are open. The valve
WILL NOT OPERATE unless both supplies are ON.
2. If the valve still does not function properly, turn off both the hot and
cold supplies and remove the balancing spool, using a wide blade
screwdriver. The inner piston of the balancing spool should shake
back and forth freely. If this is not the case, jar the spool on either
end to remove the foreign material and free the spool. When the
spool is free, replace it; turn ON both water supplies and the valve
will function properly. If you are unable to free the inner piston,
replace the entire spool.

Po446 evap vent code where is the evap vent located

Some might have an ses p0446, evap emissions vent circuit low. If you take it to the dealer they want 300-400.00 to fix the problem. GM has a service bulletin on this condition and have the updated part for 180.00, thats suppose to eliminate this issue.

Basically the problem is, the evap purge vent valve gets clogged with dirt, especially if the truck is used in dirty conditions. Well I figured there had to be a cheaper way to cure this problem.

Here it is:
1) find the location of the vent valve; its under the truck, locate the charcoal canister on the front of the gas tank and trace the vent line to the vent valve.
2) Take the bracket loose with a 5/8 wrench.
3) Spin the valve around so the side with the hole is facing you.
4) Take an air compressor and blow the vent valve out.
5) reinstall and clear the code and it's fixed.

Now I know the updated part from gm is supposed to keep the valve from clogging ever again, but why spend the money when all you have to do is blow out the vent valve every 50k-100kmi and save your $$$!

My 2004 freestar refueling problem

This is a venting problem. When the gas goes in, the air has to come out. If the air vent is blocked, the fuel wil spit back as the air forces it's way out the filler pipe.

Sometimes the vent pipe is inside the filler pipe, sometimes it runs alongside the filler pipe.

For the 2003 Winstar, it is a separate fresh air hose. Frestar was it's replacement in 2004 so it may be different. Check for a plugged or kinked hose.

Hi:
Your vehicle symtoms indicate that you might have a timing issue . It could be caused by a vacuum leak, or even the egr valve , since it only happens under load.

Do you ever get a check engine light? If so, scanning the vehicle would give some clues to the cause too.
If not, I would first look over all accessable hoses for cracks or loose connections, and then have the engine timing checked. Hopefully you will work towards a good fix.

Hayward Viper 5500 is spinning in circles

We found the problem to be a faulty check valve. the check valve cost about 25.00. I ordered it from poolcenter.com. The check valve is located by the cam. It's an easy fix. The check valve comes with the hose attachment, but since our hose was ok we just used a tie strap to connect the new check valve to the hose...sliped back into place... and it works like a charm once again. The part number is below. go to www.poolcenter.com

Dishwasher leaking at the bottom of the door during operation.

hi If the dishwasher leaks, and you know the problem is not related to tub overfilling, the pump, or inlet valve problems, the plumbing connections may be faulty. Most dishwashers are connected to the water supply with metal pipe fittings, and the leak could be at these fittings. If the fittings are threaded, tighten them with an adjustable wrench. If this doesn't work, chances are the threads are stripped or the fitting is cracked or otherwise damaged. In this case, replace the fitting.
Most dishwashers discharge used water through a pipe or a hose connected to the drain or garbage disposer under the kitchen sink. If the drain line is made of flexible hosing, it may have cracked from prolonged exposure to hot water. Examine the hose; if it's damaged, replace it. If the hose is leaking at its connections with the disposer or dishwasher, tighten the fittings or clamps at the connections, or replace the clamps. Also check for water leaks around inlet valves, drain valves, and anywhere you see flexible hoses and hose connections. Leaks at clamps can be stopped by tightening or replacing the clamps. Leaks in hoses can be eliminated by replacing the hoses.
