Just bought a Hitachi 250GB external hard drive with USB connection. Says it works with Mac OSX. On my Powerbook G4 it only goes "click, click, click..." and does not recognize it in the finder. I tried restarting with and without it plugged in. Nothing working. Any advice?
I was ready to trash my Hitachi 250GB External Drive Model OSO2528 because of that clicking sound which is a sign of a crashed drive. I happened to plug it into an HP laptop and suddenly it worked. It seems to choose a USB port that is capable of providing higher mA. I'm now looking for an external power supply so I can use it for my Mac.
Try to format it in other way like ntfs or fat32....
Can you reformat it for mac if there's already data on the hard drive from its original formatting?
My hard drive is having the same issue as the original posting.
It will show up on my Ubuntu computer, but not on my Mac, not even in the Disk Utility app.
Any ideas?

Your problem could be any one of these issues:
1. Faulty USB port on PC: Try a different computer or laptop
2. Faulty USB cable: Try a different Cable
3. Corrupt memory: Fix by an expert required such as www.SaveMyUSB.com
4. Faulty connections on main circuit inside the hard drive: Physical Fix by an expert required such as www.SaveMyUSB.com
5. Faulty controller chip (worst case scenario) : Direct flash memory read required by an expert required such as www.SaveMyUSB.com
Hope this helps and that it is 1 or 2 as 3, 4 and 5 will cost you money.
Good luck!
