The microwave will power on, timers work, etc......but it does not heat at all. Ever since we purchased the microwave, it powers off completely whenver cooking certain foods. For example, when cooking baked potatoes (4 or 5 placed in a cirlcle on oven safe plate) the microwave powers off after about 7-8 minutes of cooking; the whole thing powers off, lights and all. It then takes several minutes to power back on. This happens every time we bake potatoes, or pop more than one bag of microwave popping corn consecutively. It almost seems like it just gets too hot. It is positioned in an area with sufficient ventilation, several inches on all sides and top.

Ok, if this unit has stopped heating, this will confirm a major fault within the Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating affect and, you will need to replace this damaged part in order to restore proper heating functions in you microwave oven.

Fuse is behind the control panel. Has cavity sensors and a magnatron thermal disc also. Start with the fuse and then pull it down if not the problem. Eric
Testimonial: "Thanks Eric...now I'll have to find the control panel.I guess you've figured out by now I'm just a girl trying to do a guys job. (smile)"

There's a safety thermostat attached to the cooking cavity in most ovens to detect when something overheats. Once they operate they cut off power to the rest of the oven. These are usually non-resettable, and need to be replaced to repair the oven. If there wasn't any damage done to the interior of the oven you can see about having the repair made.
