My machine will not thread any bobbins.

Pop an empty bobbin on the thread spool. You need to disengage the motor from the presser foot so that the motor no longer makes the presser foot go up and down, but sends the power to wind a bobbin on the thread spool. Check with your machine's manual, but this is usually done be either pushing in, or popping out a button on the hand wheel. Begin a new thread on the bobbin following the directions either from your manual or as printed on the machine. On my Bernina, I have to push the thread spindle sideways to engage the bobbin winder. Use your foot pedal now and the bobbin will automatically fill up. It should stop when full, then you reverse your actions. eg: push the thread spool back, pop in the button on your hand wheel, insert the bobbin (check with your user manual as to clockwise-anticlockwise, and yes it DOES make a difference!) Re-thread your machine (always with the presser foot up) and make a test stich.

Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the old needle, place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side to the back of the machine
Push the needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw

This excerpt shows that you wind the bobbin insitu in the bobbin case.


I'm not a fan of prewound bobbins, far better to deal with the bobbin winder issue. Winding your own thread means you can get far better colour matching to the fabric, and ensure you've got quality thread on the machine, and same thread top and bottom. (I prefer a quality cotton wrapped polyester or a polyester thread, Guttermann, Molynecke or Sylko Supreme). All of these factors affect stitching quality and the finished appearance of a seam.

It is possible the jam threw off the timing and this will need to be fixed by a sewing machine tech.

Try one more thing first. Lift the presser foot - this will open the tension control so the thread can properly seat into the control.

Re-thread the machine.

How do I wind the bobbin?

1. Pull up the spool pin as far as possible, and then put a spool of thread on this pin.
2. Pass the thread around the pre-tension disk. Make sure that the thread passes under the pre- tension disk.

Caution If the spool of thread is not in the right place, the thread may tangle on the spool pin.

3. Pass the end of the thread through the hole on the bobbin from the inside of the bobbin.
4. Put the bobbin onto the bobbin winder shaft and slide the bobbin winder shaft to the right.
5. Turn the bobbin clockwise, by hand, until the spring on the shaft slides into the groove of the bobbin. Spring on the shaft Groove of the bobbin

6. Turn on the sewing machine.
7. While holding the end of the thread, gently press the foot controller or press start/ stop button (for models equipped with the start/stop button) to wind the thread around the bobbin a few times. Then stop the machine.
Note

• If the sewing machine is to be operated using the foot controller, connect the foot controller before turning on the machine.
• When the foot controller is plugged in, the start/stop button cannot be used to start sewing (only for models equipped with the start/stop button).

8. Trim the excess thread above the bobbin.
Caution Make sure you follow the instructions carefully.
If you do not cut the thread completely, and the bobbin is wound, when the thread runs low it may tangle around the bobbin and cause the needle to break.

9. Slide the sewing speed controller to the right (to set the speed to fast).
(For models equipped with the sewing speed controller.) Sewing speed controller
10. Press the foot controller or press start/stop button (for models equipped with the start/stop button) to start.
11. When the bobbin seems full and begins spinning slowly, take your foot off the foot controller or press start/stop button (for models equipped with the start/stop button).
12. Cut the thread, slide the bobbin winder shaft to the left and remove the bobbin.
13. Slide the sewing speed controller back to its original position (for models equipped with the sewing speed controller).


Caution Not winding the bobbin properly may cause the thread tension to loosen, and may break the needle.

• When the sewing machine is started or the handwheel is turned after winding the thread around the bobbin, the machine will make a clicking sound; this is not a malfunction.
• The needle bar does not move when you slide the bobbin winding shaft to the right.

buckmanfamil....I use my finger to keep tension on thread when i fill my bobbin.i also pusu thread slightly up & dwn to even it out on bobbin.works for mine ! I luv my Baby Lock !!

Use a bigger spool stopper to keep the thread from catching in the **** on the thread spool.

Wind the Bobbin
For the usual jobs, it is the best to use a medium sized thread.
2. Disengage the flywheel by unscrewing the coupling knob as far as it will go.

3. Place the bobbin on the bobbin winder, and push the bobbin winder to the right.

4. Pull out one of the spool pins and place the spool of thread on it.

5. Pass the thread through the bobbin winder tension discs, as indicated.

6. Wind the end of the thread around the bobbin by hand, in the direction indicated.

7. Wind the bobbin, at a medium speed by pressing lightly with a finger on the spool so as to stretch the thread better and thus fill the bobbin to a maximum. The full bobbin stops automatically.

8. Re-engage the flywheel by tightening the coupling knob.

9. Cut the thread and remove the bobbin from the bobbin winder by pushing the latter to the left.
