There are lines across the pics on the S1 IS camera. the LCD screen is fine when taking the pictures. there are no lines on the lcd screen. only the resulting pics

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Camera has been working well up until about two weeks ago. Now when taking pictures outdoors, the image has lines through it and seems to be overexposed. Tried reformating the CF card but it didn't help.
There are lines across the pictures on the S1 IS camera. The LCD screen is fine when taking the pictures and there are no lines on the lcd screen, only the resulting pimages. Camera has been working fine up until three weeks ago. The resulting images seem to be very over exposed as well.
Screen has aline across half way down the screen Picture above line OK below line has a tint covering bottom half of screen which changes from red to yellow and blue depending on colour odf pic above line
